You are a Simulation & Physics Can Prove It: George Smoot at TEDxSalford
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Astrophysicist, cosmologist and Nobel Prize winner George Smoot studies the cosmic microwave background radiation — the afterglow of the Big Bang. His pioneering research into deep space and time is uncovering the structure of the universe itself. He has also made a cameo appearance (as himself) in an episode of the 'Big Bang Theory.' George Smoot looks into the farthest reaches of space to the oldest objects in the known universe: fluctuations in the remnants of creation. Using data collected from satellites such as COBE and WMAP, scanning the cosmic microwave background radiation (a relic of the heat unleashed after the Big Bang), he probes the shape of the universe. In 1992 he and his Berkeley team discovered that the universe, once thought to be smooth and uniform at the largest scale, is actually anisotropic — or varied and lumpy. Smoot continues to investigate of the structure of the universe at the University of California at Berkeley, mapping billions of galaxies and filaments of dark matter in hope of uncovering the secrets of the universe's origins. Well I just wasted 20 minutes of my life.

It's a sad thing TEDx allows such a clickbait title. There was no actual proof or evidence about this. All that was said, was that you could be a simulation... If the only commonly accepted proof toward this conclusion was, that you think therefore you are, you could just as well argue, that you are a tomato that thinks. He even used untested, unproven theories and ideas to argue for his conclusion. I know this was supposed to be funny, or light talk, and I don't think Smoot really thinks this is the state of the reality, but his presentation made me angry to have wasted 20 minutes of my life in such a dull talk. It was presented in such uninterested and monotonic way (George Smoot even admitted on creating the talk right before presenting it.) Entire talk sounded just like boring ramblings of a maniac. I would have much preferred to hear if he could link this idea into his deep space study or about the structure of the universe. That way it could have been interesting and funny. He should really shy away from stages and stick to his research desk.

so basically religion is right after all

There are so many flaws, I mean Un answered questions to this. it's like we need more science funding and more philosophy classes so let's use this time in our lives where computers and virtual reality really hits home with the average lay person, so we can get more funding on some crazy idea that someone has unlimited energy and decides to create a simulation and we are the joke. Einstein would be rolling over in his grave.

If you're in a simulation , there will be glitches . There will be limits for minimum and maximum . We are given sentience , something that cannot be created with our technology currently . The only way to legitimately prove we are in a simulation is we either provide sentience to a simulator with every emotions given , consciousness , pain and happiness or we break out of this simulation . We are conditioned to believe the universe is infinite because it is constantly growing , maybe the only way to break out of the simulation is to literally break out of our universe .

This guy is a retard, and he's just proved it.
-
so in the simulation the simulator is simulating that we are aware of the simulation?
-
Is any computer simulation able to produce matter and energy?
-
Is he suggesting a simulation can somehow create consciousness first hand...? or is he suggesting our consciousness exist outside the simulation and has somehow been put into a simulation... Either way I can see a few holes with this idea...

Leeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrooooy JJJJJunkins

If there is no difference between reality and simulation then there is no simulation.

This reality is a computer simulation theory is just as stupid as the 11 dimensions of string theory. But I am sure it can be proven mathematically. A good con man and psychopath can make anything sound proven with hard science. Never underestimate the power of a sociopath to change reality itself into whatever he wants it to be.
