Why is our universe fine-tuned for life? | Brian Greene
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
http://www.ted.com At the heart of modern cosmology is a mystery: Why does our universe appear so exquisitely tuned to create the conditions necessary for life? In this tour de force tour of some of science's biggest new discoveries, Brian Greene shows how the mind-boggling idea of a multiverse may hold the answer to the riddle. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate If you have questions or comments about this or other TED videos, please go to http://support.ted.com

I have a basic question. Where do these big bangs take place? If the universe does not exist just yet then there is no concept of 'Space' of the mentioned extra dimensions so where would the bangs take place?

I watched the amazing presentation and with great curiosity scrolled down to the comments.
A large number of them : ''This are just hypothesis and are very complex so another complex thing has created everything out of something else that we don't know what it is or maybe out of nothing''.
The lack of critical thinking is astonishing. -

What got tuned first, Life or the universe?

You have to laugh at the people in the comment section of any debate/lecture sometimes. It's as if the people in the comment section (most likely undergrad students) know more than the person speaking. Whether it's a theist or atheist speaking people always seem to know more than these speakers who have been doing this their whole life and have years and years of research under their belt. I think people too often but their biases get in the way of them being totally open-minded about these different worldviews. there will always be two kinds of people. 1.) People who study the evidence with a completely open mind and See God as the reason for it all and will never understand why somebody doesn't see that. 2.) And someone who studies the evidence and can't understand how someone can find God in all this.... so there really is no point in coming in here and acting like we know better than that these people who have been doing it for years. Because the truth is it's not going to affect anybody else but yourself. Keep your convictions to yourself and have a little humility. I'm sure the reason we are all here in the first place it's because we are all searching for truth. so just listen to the talk and come up with your own conclusions by yourself and not in the comments section. If you disagree with him I keep it to yourself. Simple as that.

If there are infinite amount of universes with just infinite amount of possibilities then isnt it a big, in fact lemme rephrase that, isnt it a must possibility that in one of those universes, their life forms must have developed a way to go to other universes and since there are infinite possibilities then we shouldve met someone from other universe by now?
Alright guys. sermon's over. Physicists should now come up with a different myth that we cant possibly observe so we'll just blindly follow them by saying "They're graduates from this & this universities", or in other words, worship them. -
The universe appears to be fine-tuned to typing out this comment.

This man does not feel his body changing and thinks his thoughts to be real. Physical reality is an illusion. Like a movie on the screen is not real so the ever changing world i.e. vision in my eyes is not real. Close your eyes and the movie will disappear. Physisists asume there is physical reality, independent observer with concepts and common view. And as long we are convinced measurements to be non changing this universe i.e. movie exists as real. Dream is the only reality.

Complete imaginations. There is no evidence for a mulitverse, and it can't be seen, measured, quantified, or tested. The idea can't be falsified. It's unscientific. It's nonsense based on the desire there be no designer. It's useless, and any true scientist would discount it as meaningless. You might as well claim there's a giant fairly maid servant on the other end of the universe that's left the cosmic vacuum cleaner on and that explains cosmic acceleration. Both have as much evidence, and both should be discounted as fanciful delusion.

What if dark energy is like waves it pushes the galaxies forward then the wave comes back and pushes the galaxies abit back but the galaxies moved abit

♦Why does water have 3 phases on earth? Because if it didn't, we wouldn't be here to ask about it. ♦Why is carbon so common on earth? Because if it didn't, we wouldn't be here to ask about it. ♦Why does massless light radiate through space at the speed of light? Because if it didn't, we wouldn't be here to ask about it. ♦Why did your great grand mom marry great granddad? Because if she didn't, we wouldn't be here to ask about it? ♦Why did Kenedy not invade Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis? Because if he did, we wouldn't be here to ask about it?
IOW, random events were the explanation. Nothing special happened. It's just that we find ourselves in the universe with a particular set of random events that works.
You can use the anthropic principle/multiverse to explain anything. -
one "maybe built on another. science is "knowledge" from Latin derived from observation. String theory is not based on observation but only mathematics and theory that often postulates things proved false through observation and test. Romans 1:18-32 the evidence is plain to each of us but many suppress it through their unrighteousness.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: -
