Why every picture of a black hole is an illustration

Scientists are pretty sure black holes are real. Soon they'll know for sure. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO The biggest problem with trying to detect a black hole is that even the supermassive ones are relatively tiny. "The largest one in the sky [is] the black hole in the center of the Milky Way," Dimitrios Psaltis, an astrophysicist at the University of Arizona, writes me in an email. "And taking a picture of it would be equivalent to taking a picture of a DVD on the surface of the moon." What's more, because of their strong gravity, black holes tend to be surrounded by other bright matter that makes it hard to see the object itself. That's why, when hunting for black holes, astronomers don't usually try for direct observation. Instead, they look for evidence of the effects of a black hole's gravity and radiation. But an ongoing effort is linking up several radio telescopes around the world in an effort to see a black hole up close for the first time. The historic image is due in 2017. Can't wait to see the pictures. Although that's not gonna change the course of humanity. Space is clearly the way to go, but is taking pictures the best way to invest all the money?

Scary...

"There's a picture of a black hole that has mansplainer's stumped!"
-
I feel very small now
-
I can't wait to see this image
-
Super massive but hard detect due to it being too small....damnit scientists!
-
Have you seen that picture with the Telescope on the mountain titled Event-Horizon-Telescope at 3:17. Thats a picture of Lucerne, my hometown, with the Pilatus in thr background!

"where we're going, you don't need eyes to see!" - event horizon

2:12 lol

"black holes" and "calculated centuries ago" should not appear in the same sentence. unless this video is from the future O.O
-
Rumor has it mr grinch can be spotted by the black hole
-
damn, image is due 2017? watched this too early

Your gravity is sucking my eyes forward
-
...we are so small...

There are more Vox videos than there are stars in the solar system
-
Black holes aren't real
-
They might see an eye... wouldn't that be creepy af

You should make a video explaining relativity. It isn't super hard to understand if it's explained right and people need to learn it since it's super cool.

What they call black holes are nothing more than matter that vibrates beyond our ability to see, every galaxy has one and they are not regions that suck in matter. Why would a galaxy consume itself? they really are the force of God sending energy throughout the Galaxy to the suns which inturn to the planets, as a result all galaxies are in rotation so what we call a black hole is really like a huge motor which through magnetic forces drives the massive galaxy and the stars around and around. and also galaxies revolve around each other giving us the illusion that they are flying away from each other.

Ask any Astrophysic like Hawking and or Tyson and they will tell you straight up, that Black Holes may not exist at all, to this day as they have sunce their conception are only a theory, and utilized in numerous ways in quamtum physics. So, presenting a picture, photo and or digital composite of a black hole as fact is entirely 100% bullshit.
