Why do we care about gravitational waves?

On Feb 11, 2016 Scientists at LIGO announced that they had detected gravitational waves for the first time. In the press conference heard round the world, they showed the tell-tale waveforms indicating that huge event in which two black holes merged 1.3 billion lightyears away, had created waves that passed by the LIGO detectors and were finally heard. Einstein predicted the existence of these waves in his 1915 theory of general relativity. But it took a long time for us to come up with the technology to detect them. For one, we had to invent lasers! This video discusses why this discovery is important, what it means for astronomy, and what’s next. Absence of evidence that the speed gravitational wave which is the same speed as speed of light 'c'

there is only 1 time, and that is now. I don't see how mass and gravity can shift time or make ripples as you call them. it's not like you can make experiments to replicate this so call wave that was detected. maybe the whole notion of space-time is incorrect.

Thank you for the interesting video! I also have a request: Would you please work on a uTube video about how water can boil at much lower than normal temperature? I'm asking this because when I was working on a relatively high rpm centripetal water pump I observed air bubbles in the water flow output of the pump as well as a cyclic output of higher and lower water volume output from the pump. At first I thought there must be an air leak in the water supply to the pump. However when the pump was stopped, there was no water leaking, so I reasoned that it was unlikely that I had an air leak. Then I had another idea, which I believe is the correct answer to the question of where the air bubbles were coming from. The water behind the impeller blades in the pump is at a much lower pressure and is actually boiling at far less than the 120 degrees Fahrenheit that people often think water boils at. When I told this to my boss, he looked at me like I was crazy because "everyone knows the water is no where near hot enough to boil" and I became quickly stifled. Perhaps a well done video presentation could shed some insight into the physics of boiling water.

I think it's very important, it shows empty space isn't "nothingness" but a medium energy and matter sit in, like ripples in a water medium.

Would these waves affect time? Recently I've experenced things such as the IR remote for my tv, a light up key chain, among other things moving about .5 seconds slower than they should have moved! Am I alone in this?

Hmmm... How did they determine it was from 2 black holes that merged together? I would have thought that space would have been polluted with gravitational waves coming from all different directions... What happens when two waves arrive at the same time would there be a chance that the machine won't detect it because they cancelled each other out? Hmmm... interesting...
