Why Did the Air Force Play with Cats in Space?

**Blog will be posted Sunday so I can get the companion video edited!** When it was clear men would be flying in space sooner rather than later, it began a new kind of research into how men can move in space, specifically in microgravity. There were a lot of studies in this field, and one 1962 report detailed a series of movements in a weightless environment that could help a disoriented astronaut get to where he needed to be in a spacecraft. And there's loads of olde timey space to dig into on my blog, Vintage Space, too! http://www.popsci.com/blog-network/vintage-space Like even older space? "Breaking the Chains of Gravity: the Story of Spaceflight Before NASA" is available now! You can order your copy on Amazon. bit.ly/astbtcog I'm also selling signed hardcover editions of my book on my website! www.amyshirateitel.com/shop (and please not my shipping times are much longer than Amazon's; I'm a one-woman operation!) Pete has the look of indifference down. if I did that to my cats I'd get dirty looks every time I got home
-
That Pete is one large puddy tat. He ain't too happy about being held so tight either. He looks like he might be only one or two tail twitches from bailing out of this video.

Interesting that we have the same axes that a space-craft has. I'm glad I watched that episode first. Very informative. Remind me to post "Ode to Spot" to assuage all the cat-lovers.

Would you be propelled if you farted?
-
The cat is so done with life😂
-
Come off it - if you were in zero-gravity you'd want to throw a couple of cats around too - it's just so darn entertaining!
-
That's a big cat.

If only NASA had stuck with making videos of cats in space. They would have the #1 Youtube channel and more than enough money to go to Mars and beyond! (this is a joke...)
-
I have been a deep fan of NASA since I was a kid and these are some of the best videos I've seen about the amazing little-known facts that make up the history of the US space program. Well done! Keep up the great work - you are an inspiration to the next generation of explorers. On to Mars!!

It appears that Pete is a rather large cat, or Amy is a rather petite lady. Or perhaps a bit of both? Just a random late-night thought...
-
Nice tits girl, dig the part in 3:50 and Pete of course .......lol
-
cats should always be in space. cats will obviously eventually rule space and become our masters
-
animal abuse sucks.
-
1) What is the wight of the cat?
2) Would the solution to the problem be to carry a cat at all time and throw it in some direction in case the astronaut was stuck in the middle of a volume? -
I should think that monkeys would have been a better choice seeing as how they are so similar to humans.
-
Either Pete is huge, or Amy is about 4' 10"
-
Oh my Lord... now Moon wants me to take him on the Vomit Comet (stupid cat)
-
It's Pete's house! Amy is just visiting! CATS ARE THE GREATEST!
