we are here because the universe is here.
-
question?
how did it all begin? when there was nothing? (i am novice without any math skills etc). -
Roger Penrose would love the way Sean Carroll presents all this on a chalk boards.
-
I've tried causal patches and I'm still smoking

We were born to worship our Creator who happens to be the Creator of everything else. Not that he needs our worship but WE DO. By worshipping him we can get to highest level of spirituality which is so hard to understand for people like you but as you become more knowledgeble you would get it.

On Cosmos Sagan said, "The cosmos is also within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself." 'Nuf said
So, as conscious human beings we are literally walking, talking stardust, become AWAKE, looking back at our self. That's science, and also a pretty mind blowing statement.
Carl was talking about 'stellar nucleo-synthesis'. Only hydrogen & helium atoms were created by the Big Bang. ALL the other atoms on Earth like carbon, oxygen & nitrogen were all fused & created in giant stars that blew up as supernova billions of years ago. -- All the atoms in our body came from Earth. So, each of us is, in fact, walking, talking stardust from ancient supernova become AWAKE! Enjoy the dance.
BTW, Einstein said, "A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness."
We are each, literally, are this cosmos become AWAKE and looking back at our self. And as human beings we are actually no more separate from this universe than a tree is separate from the earth, the sun, & the rain. In fact, all the energy in our body right now originally came from the sun.
So, enjoy the dance -- and please be kind - because, ultimately, It's all you. -
Is this a how and not why argument?

W against T, reference required.

I also like the surrealism of the blackboard...
-
The concepts I've gained by this talk can no more come back out of my head, or the flakes of chalk on the board can reassemble back into the stick of chalk before it was used. It matters not that physics is 'time reversible' on paper.

I vehemently disagree at 7:50. Just kidding, I have neither the background or the trained mind to judge a) vs. b). But way back before my waveform left science to go to the business world I encountered erudite minds for just long enough to realize this is very likely a much more interesting / truth approximating take on "why are we here" than I ever heard in Sunday school. Hamiltonian out.

why

I can't watch without being distracted by the horribly dirty black boards `__`
-
How is the audience so empty?
Fuck... the very idea of Sean Carroll speaking is, to me, is like a 12 year old girl at Beebs concert!
I love this man so much that I just cannot. I can't. -
Sean Carroll: the only cosmologist who can make me ROFL in the first 60 seconds of a one hour video.
I fucking love the time arrow shit out of you, Sean Carroll. -
Sean Carroll needs a YT channel

Such an amazing teacher. It's not often that someone can 1) understand the small details 2) understand the big picture 3) communicate poetically and 4) wants to teach. So inspiring.
-
The description is wrong. This is Sean Carroll not Sean B. Carroll. Sean B. Carroll is an evolutionary biologist and Sean carroll's evil twin

Here I am reading your book 'From eternity to here' for the second time. So far little better understanding :-). But now I have three questions for you; 1) In the early days, when universe entropy was low, do you think the speed of light was the same as in our days and was it also the maximum speed at that time? If yes, why , if no, what consequences would that knowledge impact in our understanding of our universe? 2) Suppose the sun explode it this very moment and immediate disapears in fractions that no longer can count for beeing a gravity central object, will we still be in orbit during the time it takes for us here on earth to understand what's happend? If yes, what (natural) force does then keep us in the orbit since we actually hang there freely without a good reason for about 8 min (I think its the time between sun and earth). And if no, then that information (sun exploded) surely has travelled faster than light and that's a violation of the law as we know it. Your thoughts? Are we all the time living in a illusion univeres that just happens to be same day after day (for the moment)? 3) How come all planets in our solar system orbits our sun are position in the same plane. To me that's strange. Thanks for explaining what I oversee if you (or anyone else reading this) have the time.

The Dragons Egg being mentioned. I was begining to think that I was the only one having read that as this is the first time I have heard it mentioned by anyone.
