Footage of the Space Shuttle Endeavor and Shuttle Carrier stopping for fuel at Biggs Army Airfield. The Space Shuttle was carried by the famous SCA ex 747 plane. The shuttle carrier aircraft ( or SCA), is the name of two Boeing 747-100 modified to carry the Space Shuttle. The latter being much too big to be put in the hold, it is set on the roof of the SCA. These aircraft are used primarily to move the shuttle landing strip them to their launch pad at Kennedy Space Center. When the program began, it has served to validate the glide tests. The 747 is not the only aircraft to have served as a carrier of a space shuttle, the Antonov An-225 Mriya and Myassichtchev vm does Atlante also played this role for the Soviet Buran project. What if the space shuttle was lopsided during the landing and the plane crashed? This is a bad idea to have a 747 shuttle carrier.

i was expecting a short history on the SCA and it was modified. this did not contain anyrhing more than a basic flyby and a first-person tour...no explaination. however i still gave a thimbs up because it is a piece of history that is never going to be seen again. that is the SCA and the 747, the 747 being phased out entirely around the world.

Why is there an american flag on the top of the 747? I mean it landed like ten minutes earlier.... Is it literally someones job to make sure theres a flag hoisted above the cockpit after landing??

Do you have any more like this worth posting? These types of video on the shuttle are a vital part of our national space history. This is already fading into the past. I would like to see a VERY comprehensive "one stop portal" web site set up with all things shuttle. Show it all: the specs, designs, the videos on the program, the building, the test flights, and of course all the missions. Lots of launches, landings, ISS, and other missions, and all the ground support stuff to that was done by the companies that serviced and supported the vehicles and the program. Youtube alone does not cut it. Videos too edited and dispersed across too many providers... -
So this plane can carry a shuttle, but I can't have an extra bag? :D
