What is the Holographic Principle?
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
When Stephen Hawking elegantly described the relationship of quantum mechanics with black holes, he inadvertently opened the door to a radical possibility: that our universe, as we know it, is like a hologram. Science historian Peter Galison and leading physicists Brian Greene and Cumrun Vafa explain how the resilient nature of information combined with the behavior of event horizons suggests that the three dimensions of reality we observe may in fact be a two-dimensional information structure "painted" on some sort of cosmological horizon. Oh god, Brian Greene couldn't explain his way out of a paper bag.
What does it mean for information about the particle arrangement to be destroyed? Why are you worried about the destruction of this information when a black hole crushes a shoe, but not when you drop an egg? -
I don't know why there is an assumption that therefore it's a hologram. Isn't it much easier and more reasonable to believe that the perception of a 3D reality is just the way our brains have evolved to perceive a 2D information reality as opposed to that 2D information projecting on a mass-scale across the entire universe.

So the universe is a big black hole?
-
saw the title and came here but before watching came to the comments because I knew I found Epicans here :D ;)

Remember...
Reality is an illusion
the universe is a hologram

I know ZERO about particle physic or the science of what they talk about in this video. However, one of the scientist stated that the information disappear but the energy is left. Isn't energy information as well? To my understanding from high school science classes, I know matter and energy are the same. I just want to know if they mean by the information disappearing include the energy that made up the object as well, that the energy that the object, particles, etc. turned into.

"the energy remains but the information disappears" can some one exlplain for me pleaaaase. Whats the difference?
-
It could all be a dream! Whoooh Grooovy maaan! You all outta ideas now, son?
-
when i watch a DVD the movie characters dont turn around and look at me and contemplate my existence or their own. we are not simply information playing out. try again but as always...there is more to it. they dig a hole and shout we're at the bottom! then they dig some more to find the "real bottom". then....the real real bottom.

Still confused

The Zenith Passage!

Are we holograms with mass? Gravity etc?
-
Anyone here because of Epica?

Epica - The Holographic Principle <3

I'm afraid of this theory, but fi we are in virtual reality, where we Go when we are dead?
-
We are a bunch of beings on pods to another star. Our senses our hooked up to a cooperating computer while we travel to another world
-
I don't know about the legitimacy of this theory itself, but I do know that it is not a logical conclusion to say that we don't actually exist. Not that they were saying that but it merits pointing out. Cogito ergo sum. I think, therefore I am.

So if the universe is supposedly flat, why do we perceive three dimension?
