What is Space and Time Continuum? - Kip Stephen Thorne
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
In physics, spacetime is any mathematical model that combines space and time into a single interwoven continuum. The spacetime of our universe has historically been interpreted from a Euclidean space perspective, which regards space as consisting of three dimensions, and time as consisting of one dimension, the "fourth dimension". By combining space and time into a single manifold called Minkowski space, physicists have significantly simplified a large number of physical theories, as well as described in a more uniform way the workings of the universe at both the supergalactic and subatomic levels. Kip Stephen Thorne, (born June 1, 1940) is an American theoretical physicist, known for his contributions in gravitational physics and astrophysics. A longtime friend and colleague of Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan, he was the Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) until 20092 and is one of the world's leading experts on the astrophysical implications of Einstein's general theory of relativity. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacetime https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space-time https://einstein.stanford.edu/content/relativity/q411.html https://www.quora.com/Can-someone-explain-the-time-space-continuum-in-simple-terms http://www.ws5.com/spacetime/ http://www.hawking.org.uk/space-and-time-warps.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTY1Kje0yLg

No no. The description starting at 00:52 is wrong. The clocks being seen from both locations as both being slow is not accurate. The stationary person will see the high velocity person's clock as ticking slow. The high velocity person will see the stationary person's clock as moving fast. That is part of the reason why GPS satellites need adjusting. 1 adjustment is at launch and takes into account velocity difference and for Energy difference between near earth and at-altitude and the other monitored adjustment is necessary for gravitational differences (which means the satellites sometimes approach mountain ranges). It turns out that all proton are emitting a weak long wave light that is not visible. But taken as a whole of all the proton light emissions from the Earth adds up to significant force on any other proton. Light being the force carrier of gravity.
What the guy explains at :52 would require that both people be moving at a high velocity. Then the question becomes; would the clocks of the other people appear to tick slowly or would they both appear to tick at the same rate? -

If you want a condensed version explaining the basics of space time, check out my video! I try to explain it in an entertaining and concise way, so be sure to check it out!

This is but one hypothesis where time is in blocks interesting , however I have a problem in the concept of blocks of time when you approach the speed of light smoothly not blocks, the characteristics of special relativity dose not act this way.

I can't believe in this day and age people still don't understand relativity. It should be taught in all high-school science classes! How can we ever expect to move forward if people have to wait until university to learn the basics?

poor quality version of a "closer to the truth" video?
