IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOUR CHILD BE LAYING ON HER BACK, SO THE BUTTON POINTS STRAIGHT UP. Our daughter, Victoria, was diagnosed soon after her birth with reflux and poor feeding and had her g-tube installed and her Nissen surgery done before leaving the NICU. Because the Nissen prevents burping, we were trained by the nurses to vent the air in her stomach by using an open 60cc syringe hanging upright at the end of her g-tube, after her pump feeding. But that method never really vented a lot of air. We repeatedly complained to her pediatrician, and then a GI specialist, that she vomited frequently. She was treated with Prevacid, Reglan, and Zofran, and even had her Nissen surgery redone last year, but she continued to vomit, typically in the middle or at the end of her pump feedings. So... recently I called her surgeon's PA for advice, and we came up with a new way of venting air from her tummy. Turns out that was the problem all along. Now we get a lot more air out of there, and she has stopped vomiting! Thank God!
