Van Life - Our Amazing Stealth Solar Power Set up! Off Grid Camper Van
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Check out our new Guide to Van Life: http://goo.gl/dnhZQq - We installed a 300 Watt solar system in our stealth campervan and we love it! It makes living in a van much more comfortable, especially since we're also working in the van! We're using Renogy's flexible (bendable) 100 Watt panels, a 40 amp MPPT charge controller, a 500 Watt pure-sine inverter and a 155 ah Deep Cycle AGM battery from VMAX. Watch the video to check out how we installed it! If you want more information about the components, prices, etc., check out our blog post about the solar panel system here: http://www.exploringalternatives.ca/we-have-solar-power-in-the-van/ Thanks for watching! Yes! Down to earth; thank you!!
-
Batteries emit gasses ....hope u have them ventilated enough or it might go KABOOM.
-
would this be powerful enough to run a desktop computer?
-
You have a MPPT charge controller so you should run the panels in series. You will generate heaps more power than the parallel you describe.
-
Looks like a good set up, you have done well for a non electrical type person. A trap many fall into now is adding a fridge, fridges use and enormous amount of electricity because they pull power 24/7 and will test your system especially in overcast weather.
I might suggest you add a dual battery automatic switch, so you can charge your house battery when your engine is running or when your driving along and it can be used to jump start your starter battery should it ever go flat on you.
Happy camping -
Can you drive your van JUST using SOLAR POWER
-
Where can I source the 100w panel?
-
i wonder if you can install tesla powerwall in a van
-
Now that it has been more than a year since the video was released, what is your conclusion about the adhesive? Did it stay stuck?
-
you have a Mppt, why wire the PV parallel, series is much more efficient and has tidier wiring than parallel.
-
Rain doesn't effect your panels?
-
Is this enough to run a small tv and computer?
-
have you used this to power an electric heater yet?
-
nice,, thats alot of power.. you can run a small AC unit off of that i would think
-
can show box bye bye. how you connet?
-
awesome brother, I'm getting prepared to go off grid with everything..thanks for the info, it was awesome..again thanks

What type of industrial strength velcro did you use? I have a similar flexible solar set up and was using 3M dual lock fasteners 250/250 however did not order enough for 4 100 watt panels. Amazon will not be able ship this product out for 1 to 2 months. Any suggestions for alternatives?

Those Renogy 100watt Flexible panels they are being recalled,
mine lasted 14 months or so before they began to delaminate. They still
produce power, not sure how much less but the black areas are completely
unprotected. Very disappointed with the quality of the product, their customer service is great though. How are yours holding up? -
any particular reason why you guys didnt go for a 1500 watt inverter?
