See Full Blog Post for product links, photos, diagrams and more information - http://www.loveyourrv.com/upgrading-our-renogy-rv-solar-system-to-400-watts/ In this how to video, I upgraded my existing 200 watts Renogy RV solar system to 400 watts by adding two more 100-watt panels. I detail all the pieces used for the job, why I chose the roof location and how I mounted the panels and sealed up the mounts. I also show where I ran the wires down through the RV, including a boo boo I made and how I hooked the two new panels into the existing system. Here is a link to the original 200 watts Renogy solar kit installation - http://www.loveyourrv.com/installing-renogy-200w-solar-kit-rv/ My next upgrade will be the installation of a Trimetric battery monitor from Bogart Engineering and it's companion SC-2030 charge controller. wondering why you didn't combine the 2 new panels with the original 2 panels using a 4 to 1 pig tail. That way you would not have to added the extra set of cables.

Hi Ray, I know this is an older video but i am sure you are always looking to improve mounting methods to an rv so I wanted to share with you a tape that is stronger than rivets. It is made by 3m & it is called 3m VHB. It is not cheap but man does it hold almost any material in place. Check out this 3m video. I have used it myself & am extremely impressed with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4buSuzQKaUI Ops! lol you did mention it in the video after i posted this. Hope this helps anyway.

How do you like your Renorgy solar panels I've got 10 of them however I only have five hooked up right now to Renorgy tracer 4210 MPPT charge controller I'm using the four golf cart batteries 6 V wire it up for 12overall I've had pretty good luck with that I see were someone ask why you're using 100 Watt panels instead of a 200 W panel a lot of folks swear by those 100 Watt panels Renorgy sells mine have perform very wellsupposed to be really good and with the right charge controller they sometimes put out a shade over 100 W some of those bigger panels are problematic at times
-
just curious, why two 100w rather than one 200w?
-
you know its pointless to fuse the output of solar panels right ? Even under short circuit the current will be almost the same as when they are charging the batteries flat out.

Quick question, when you place panels close together coudn't you over lap the z brackets where they are close together. In other words put one bracket for the second panel over the bracket for the 1st panel. In your set up this would eliminate 8 holes through your roof. Do you see any problems with doing this?

How did you have the new vent pipe shipped to you?, did you have it shipped to the campground address?
-
Hi, also do you know the name of the 3M Tape? Thank you.
-
Hi did you drill through the roof then apply the eternabond, or did you apply first then drill through that, if you drilled before the eternabond was it hard to find the drill holes?

Hey love your videos, we're new to rv'ing and just subscribed to learn more. I'm wondering if you can help me out deciding, I'm looking at the renogy 200 watt kit and the 100 watt portable kit. We have two 6v golf cart batteries at 225ah on our unit. We live in Alberta and not sure if panels on the roof would get enough light or not in wooded areas? Do you find these work well if you head out to the woods? Would the portable unit be a better option? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Liking your vids Ray. I have a question about the Z brackets. Are you able to get to the bolts that attach them to the panel after installation in case you want to get under there for some reason? I'd hate to have to remove the lag bolts into the roof.
-
Why didn't you use wiring in place from the 200 watt install?
-
How/where did you find those for 130 each? Thanks.

Hey Ray...I'm curious if your upgraded solar system has proven satisfactory for all your boon docking demands. I'm planning my system now and I see other systems out there with crazy high wattage numbers. I think my demands will be similar to yours, so I'm wondering if 400 watts is enough based on your experience. I already have two 125 watt poly panels left over from another project so I'm thinking another two 100 watt panels will be plenty. Thanks for your time, Jean

EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE MAN. BEAUTIFULLY DONE. AGAIN ,TU .!
GREAT HOW TO DO
VIDEO .! -
It looks like you still have plenty of room to expand your panels in the future.
-
how do you get the battery power to the outlets? i can only power my lights and heater fan.

300th thumb up here! 😊👍
