+Christian Cantrell How would you compare this to the Matias tactile pro. The Matias is a remake of the Apple Extended keyboard 2 which is probably the only keyboard that rivals the model M.
-
do u like typing on this better than the cherry blues?
-
Nice keyboard, but I'll stick with my WASD customized keyboard with cherry mx blue switches.
-
Whoa, thats one loud keyboard. I bet it feel great to type on though. :)
-
just rolling your face all over this keyboard is such a good feeling
-
I'm not surprised a keyboard that costs < $100 2014 dollars isn't built as well as a keyboard that cost $250 1980's and 1990's dollars.

They have eliminated the steel plate inside of the IBM model hence reducing the weight. Also the IMB had a little more noise from the key bottoming out onto the steel plate.

I just ordered a Unicomp.

I currently use a 7 dollar Gear Head keyboard, it's supprising not awful. It doesn't creak, it does sort of move around, but it's a very usable keyboard despite using relatively cheep parts. I actually had to replace the back legs with those wall hangers when one pinged off. Tell me, will changing to this keyboard destroy my fingers? My current keyboard is full sized and even though end bends a lot it doesn't creak, how noticeable are the build issues?

I'd like to kindly disagree. The Unicomp build...especially with recent updates...comes short to the original Ms. The Model Ms back in the day have a better plastic shell and a better weight. In turn, the sound and feel of IBM Model M is that of a sturdier and much more satisfying experience. I would get one of these to save time and money...took me a while to strike a deal on my IBM Model M.

I think i'll stick to my '88 model M
-
I have one of these from 2008 and it's extremely solid.
-
In fairness to Unicomp, many if not most of the complaints you have about quality would also apply to the IBM-made Model M, and more expensive and better made IBM Model F keyboards that I have used over the last 30 years. I think it's just the nature of the bast.

Macfag.

I think Unicomp really reminds us of that age old saying "Be careful for what you wish for...".
-
I've only ever used at least one Model M in the past, so I have a basic understanding of the buckling spring keys these things use. I've been thinking about buying a Unicomp keybpard for my iMac after seeing a video posted by uxwbill about a year ago. I would have expected better build quality for a keyboard of that price and for a keyboard built in America, I'd like to hope that Unicomp has improved their build quality over time. What do you think of the standard Apple desktop USB keyboard?
-
you really have to comment that on every single unicomp video, don't you?

Makes me miss the IBM keyboards that came with my old PS/ValuePoint computer back in the 90's. The bad news about the poor manufacturing of these new ones just makes me somewhat angry for some reason.
