Unicomp Buckling Spring Keyboard Unboxing and Mod
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
This is an unboxing and overview of Unicomp's Classic 101 Keyboard with Buckling Spring switches (as on IBM's Model M keyboards.) In this video we unbox, inspect and test the keyboard, then install some custom keycaps to transform the "bargain Basement" Kentucky Wildcats keyboard into a nifty Blue and white keyboard. We like the keyboard, and we very much like the keycaps and service from Unicomp. If you did not know, Unicomp still makes Buckling Spring keyboards in the same facility and using the same equipment and parts as IBM did back in the 80's and 90's for the Model M. The Unicomp Classic 101 is a virtual clone of the Model M, and they also sell other versions with modern conveniences like Windows keys and USB cables. You can find Unicomp at www.pckeyboard.com. I'm curious, what else would he have to do to get the function keys to be read as media keys by the computer?

The Kentucky Wildcats keyboard looks nice, even though I don't like that university. Thanks for sharing.

I have this identical keyboard (I've had it almost two years now, I think -- I would have to go back and check). I love it. Big, heavy, and very blue! I live in Oregon, but I kept the Kentucky function keys because why not? :)

I got the same deal, but I thought the UK Wildcats logo was a bonus; Half my family is in Leslie County.
