Tim Palmer - Chaos and quantum gravity

   "If you can eliminate the counterfactual directions"? What does that even mean? How can there be counterfactuals? They are counter factual!
   
   "Physicists reject the superdeterministic world that is improbably fine tuned." "One could imagine some cosmic Ray that entered my brain and fired a synapse. " Tim seems to be using imaginary counterfactual rays to prove that there can be counterfactuals!
   
   What if we are living in a "block universe" (think Mc.Taggart) where it has all already happened, as I think is proposed by Hrvoje Nikolić who talks about time being like space, extended as it were but not plural or containing counterfactuals, just something that one is travell, through: a "block universe"  where time is part of the block.

   It seems as if it is the very fact that we are on rails through time - i.e. that there is superdeterminism - that creates uncertainty, in the quantum sense in the present.
   
   The possibility that I am on rails, in an "Ego Tunnel" in which my birth and death coexist, is also reminds me also of Heracletus, the Fermi paradox, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez! In reverse order, at the end of the Nobel prize winning "One hundred years of Solitude," the realisation that ones race has been condemned to solitude is also the realisation of ones extermination. The Fermi paradox suggests that there may be some sort of filter on civilisations condemning them to extermination, around the time that they realise the Fermi Paradox - we appear to be alone. And finally Heracletus said that men (sic) see death when they are awake. What the hell does that mean?

   I think that Palmer and Nikolic are saying the same thing. Palmbers fractal determinism is Nikolić's block universe, expressed as a two dimensional pattern.
