This Plane Can Reach The Edge of Space and Spy the World: Lockheed U-2 Dragon Lady
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
The Lockheed U-2 is a 50's reconnaissance aircraft. It is still in service today, albeit modified. The main feature of the U-2 is its ability to fly at high altitude (seventy thousand feet, or about twenty-one thousand three hundred meters, twice as high as airliners) to be out of reach of Anti-aircraft defenses. It has a large operating range, but at a relatively limited speed. This thing is ancient and it got shot down in the 60s which made it pointless, especially in 2016 with weapons being more sophisticated. The stuff they probably have now would blow your mind.

Made in the 50's! OMG!

May 1, 1960 U-2 was shot down over USSR, a pilot, Garry Powers, was captured and sentenced to 10 years in prison. "Spy the World" ;-)

Its weird they have a commodore as the chase car.
-
even though the terms are contradictory, it's more a glider with an engine.

they're built very lightly and can't take any kind of hit. there's no emergency pilot ejection system.
