I started listening to Nujabes months after he had died (bless his soul.) But in regards to his life, unfortunately cut short, I couldn't help but notice that there was something "odd" about his breathtaking music, my life, and his unfortunate end.
On my sixteenth birthday, after I had obtained my gifts, surrounding myself with family and friends, I had realized that despite having everything that I loved, I felt truly somber and even a bit depressed. I had no idea why such emotions overwhelmed me. But since it was my birthday, I had tried to make myself happy. My friends tried their best to cheer me up, but nothing worked. I had no idea why.
Months later, I discover Nujabes with his song "Luv sic Part 2," remaining to me as a contemporary classic to this day. Like every artist that I'm interested in, I decided to look him up. And to my surprise, I had found out that, had recently died. Tragic as it was at first, but there was something else about his death that shook me. Something...that just spoke to me that couldn't be explained by thinking it over and
over.
Nujabes died on the same exact day that I celebrated my sixteenth year of being alive: February 26, 2010.
I don't know if this means anything, or if it's just an unfortunate coincidence, but even though his music continues to live through me (and everyone else who admires Jun Seba's beats,) I could never forget that depressing feeling that I had felt, for no reason all. And when I had discovered that the producer, who has made beats that had transformed my (and many others), had died on my birthday, it just makes his impact on my life even more personal.
Rest in Beats, Nujabes. I'll try to make every year of my life a tribute to your music, because that's that most we can do at this point. -
88 rising has the best taste. I was not expecting a nujabes tribute from you guys.
