Chiral molecules are "handy" molecules. Here's how they're helping us discover where else life might exist and how it originated on Earth. Atomic Oxygen Found on Mars! In an experiment that took 13 years to perfect1, the researchers have found that these electrons tend to destroy certain organic molecules slightly more often than they destroy their mirror images." Asymmetric Molecule, Key To Life, Detected In Space For First Time http://www.reuters.com/article/us-space-molecule-idUSKCN0Z0281 Scientists for the first time have found a complex organic molecule in space that bears the same asymmetric structure as molecules that are key to life on Earth. The researchers said on Tuesday they detected the complex organic molecule called propylene oxide in a giant cloud of gas and dust near the center of the Milky Way galaxy. 'Twisty' Molecule Essential To Life Spotted In Deep Space For 1st Time http://www.space.com/33167-twisty-chiral-molecule-first-found-interstellar-space.html "Molecules with "right-handed" and "left-handed" versions are essential to all life on Earth, and have been found in meteors and comets. Now, for the first time, one has been spotted in interstellar space." ____________________ DNews is dedicated to satisfying your curiosity and to bringing you mind-bending stories & perspectives you won't find anywhere else! I found out something the other day too, it says in Genesis that God created the heavens and the earth and life therein, so why are we looking to space?
Empirical science proves that the origin of life on this planet is not from the result of evolution. -
wait if im lefthanded, is my dna lefthanded? what does that mean if im ambidextrous?
-
it seems to me that if chiral molecules exist here, there's no reason to think they wouldn't exist elsewhere in the universe... They're here because their development is a natural consequence of the laws of physics... which near as anybody can tell are the same everywhere... We're not special.

The organic name you are looking for is enantiomers. I am sure all the orgo students are loving this episode.
-
They have different melting points, the difference in melting points that is what lead to the discovery.
-
like Blu-ray vs HD DVD. there can be only 1

Most people don't see that there is absolute proof that life came from somewhere other than earth. Four and a half billion years ago there was no life on earth so all life had to come from somewhere else. The truth as it relates to conscious life has been revealed. Search Truth Contest and read the top entry called The Present. Nothing could be more important or more worthwhile.

Fucking bullshit, fucking propagranda here.

THIS CHANNEL SUCKS COCK LIKE HILLARY CUNTON

Tf science and Astronauts can't give me a good image of our planet but they can find a molecule at the center of the galaxy fuck is this shiaaaat!?!?
-
So I'm not from here ?I'm from "outer space" ?!!
-
Some molecules come from meteors? No shit, Sherlock. Did you think meteors were made of nothing? Space enthusiasts get excited over discovering the painfully obvious.
-
And now i have to ask how did it get in space????
-
What if interplanetary travelers brought it here, came back some millennia later, attracted an asteroid on their way out to kill off the dinosaurs, and when things settled down, returned to infuse a large colony of rodents with sentient DNA, to use as a "repair and replenishment station" later?
-
Was only one enantiomer found, or was it a racemic mix?
-
Saying I don't know is what make you different from religious/conspiracy people

This video is false

Does this have anything to do with why it hangs to the right or left?
-
Does DNA consist of only left-handed molecules then, or are the two sides of the double helix mirror reflection of each other, thus requiring both left- and right- handed building blocks to compose a complete strand of DNA?
This also elicits deeper questions about what 'life' really means. If chirality is the basis for DNA to replicate by dividing into two RNA strands that fill-in to form twin DNA replicants, then the claim is that DNA's ability to mutate and complexify as it replicates is essentially what makes life possible. But is it possible that complexification is just what makes reproductive life possible? I.e. could there be life forms that don't replicate but simply form and grow more complex until they die, without ever developing the ability to reproduce?
