Pessimism is generally equated with a grumpy and immature kind of mood. But it is in fact at the origin of wisdom – and can even leave us feeling surprisingly cheerful. Is it?! Is it okay???!!!

Prepare for the worst and you will never be unpleasantly surprised.

I agree with this 100% its nice to have somebody that isn't a brainwash positive zombie for a change lets look on the dark side this is how life should be.

im a pessimist and im happy. why do all people think that pessimists are depressed ?
everyone of my friends thought I was optimistic until they got to know me -
What a good video!. Thanks

The worst recipe is a pessimistic realistic dreamer
A person who wants certain dreams and ambitions to come true which are totally realistic
But unsure if they can do it themselves -
Pessimistics are actually optimistics they're just like that for the sake of being different

Are you sure that equation's right? Shouldn't it be happiness = reality/expectations, not the other way around? Otherwise that implies that to be happy you should have very high expectations which your reality should fail to meet...
-
Wouldn't such an attitude lead to depression? In many cases I mean?
-
I believe it was Twain who said, in effect, that the only thing worse than a young pessimist is an old optimist.
For my part, I have been a pessimist all along. -
Where my Zodiac cancers at? :D

It's not healthy to be totally pessimistic, If you don't have expectations you will not improve yourself or even try to make any change.
A little depression due to quite high expectations is not bad thing, just accept it and move on. -
it would be great to have more videos on some pessimistic philosophers at the school of life (Eduard Von Hartmann, Peter Wessel Zappfe or the modern genius David Benatar). Keep up with the excellent channel
-
I am pessimistic because I know what's goth in with life and able to control and letting myself as a disappointment, I make everything seem as negative so that my expectations never disappoint me 😌
-
I'm sure the equation must have been meant to be happiness=reality/expectations, not the reciprocal as in the video. Mathematical literacy also can improve happiness, more should try it :-)
-
hmm I clicked on this video to try and help myself understand the few pessimistic people I have to put up with and it made me realize they aren't pessimists. They are self sabotaging to the point of ruin.

I agree with you on this

Just wanted to add to your comment about Buddhism. The Buddha didn't just talk about suffering, but also showed the way to get out of suffering. Two of the four noble truths.

I rather like to think that our expectations should be Realistic. Maybe pessimism is a lil too much(coz pessimists tend to believe, the possibility of success or happiness= 0)!
