Alexei Leonov is the Russian equivalent of Buzz Aldrin, both such cool guys.

I have read a considerable amount regarding the Soviet Space program. This is a well-made, fascinating documentary about the early cosmonauts. (It has less of the technicalities and more about just the cosmonauts themselves, including their wives.) There are a number of rare film footages, Leonov in space, the tragic landing of Soyuz 11. Highly recommended.

Who was the first couple to screw in space?

What's this beautiful song at 9 minutes?
Как называется песня, которая играет в 9 митут? (Мне жаль, что мой русский плохой) -
Oh Russia. You are awesome! You are a lot like us Canadianskis. Except the Kremlin part.

what was a red hot cooking plate doing in an 100% oxygen room?

That Vera woman reading her fifty page manuscript could have been cut back quite a lot.

U.S. citizens and Russian citizens have much in common. Our political leaders always seem to F it up.

Zhelezny Penis? Not bad.. Freud approves

One man flattened like a pancake in an instant, then burned like an over cooked joint of beef, three asphyxiated like condemned men hanging from a noose & yet another fatally burned in a chamber that within an instant became a hellish oven...Like the cosmonauts poor wife said, when life is going well, should we take unnecessary risks..? Was the glory worth the horrifying deaths of those five Cosmonauts ..?

Mankinds efforts to explore space will live forever for this their courage and sacrifice is unforgatable !!!!!! Hats Off Salutes to all those Cosmonauts/Astronauts

I followed our own space program and I say the Russians had to work much harder, under much worse conditions and political pressure and as they have always done, rose to the occasion. Love the footage, catching up on what used to be TOP SECRET stuff is always cool. Way to go Cosmonauts.

The first Soviet cosmonauts were rank and file air force pilots, at most. Notice how Nikolayev describes his selection process. They ran some medical tests, then pulled him aside and told him he'd been selected. Valentina Tereshkova wasn't even a pilot when she became a cosmonaut. She worked in a textile factory and was an amateur skydiver. The Soviets could fly people like that because their spacecraft were controlled from the ground. The American astronauts were the polar opposite. They were experimental test pilots with years of experience in high performance aircraft, many with advanced engineering degrees. Some had already flown rocket-powered experimental aircraft like the X-15 that were capable of approaching space. They were far more qualified than their Soviet peers, and they flew the spacecraft by hand. A rank and file American air force officer would've had no chance to become an astronaut in the early days of the American program. Under qualified.

I did not like, trust or believe in the Soviet syetem but there space program was awesome. The Soviet Cosmonauts were real heros because; they too chances tobe space pioneers when the USA was unable to get its space act together. I always loved the design of the Soviet boosters too with the four sections that fall off. Only thing the USA has that has those cute detachable rockets is the Delta. Nicest looking rocket in the US inventory of the time was the Titan for its simplisticity in form. The Atlas always look as if it was leaking even when it wasn't!
I think it is awesome someone posted this because; till now all I really knew about was the US space program. This video showed me the people, the feelings and passions that drove the Soviet space program. Going to the moon was a race the USA could win because; we could out spent the USSR. Also the Soviet N2 moon rocket had 30 relatively NEW radically awesome more powerful engines in its first stage at the time.
The Saturn Five moon rocket had FIVE killer HUGE powerful engines in its first stage. All that said these guys had guts a plenty. Oh and my deepest sarrows and condolenses for all the former Soviet Cosmonauts that died in the attempt to explore the Cosmos (Space). God Bless. -
Their cosmonauts have only two options during the communist regime: eat rationed potatoes or become a hero. Either way have to do it for the motherland! lols

I thought it was funny when I visited the Space Museum there in Moscow, that it is underground in a "bunker"

Let's remember history, we we're allies before enemies, we, the USA didn't blockade Europe, Stalin did and had he not been such a sick disturbed man and gave his countrymen freedom they would have contributed so much more to the social compact of the human experience. FREEDOM AND LIBERTY IS WHY WE DID MUCH BETTER THAN THE RUSSIANS PERIOD. The ( liberal) revisionist can try too rewrite history but it's never going to free the millions who we're prosecuted and died because of the old Soviet Union 's die hard kleptochracy . Very simular to Liberalism. We won the space race and will come back to promote even more evolutionary promise once we rid our government leadership in aerospace and let FREE ENTERPRISE lead us. Space X is just one of many examples as I'm sure Russia probably has a 'Elon Musk' in the fold. Hope so.
