Because of all calculus should be 100% correct. Duuh?
-
Yeah, why should we memorize letters, grammar rules and reading rules. Why can't we just go straight to the point and start interpreting big works of literary art? Of course kids aren't interested in Literature.... duh!
I'm sure Michio Kaku is a brilliant physicist and probably regarded as genius in his field, but he's not quite right on this one. We need to learn the bases before learning about complex things. His example is mostly right, you really don't need many bases to learn about continental drift, but you can't extrapolate for the rest of what you learn in school. For most things you need to memorize basic stuff, and you need to do it for every subject. You can't ask a 10 year old what they want to be when they grow up and then only teach them the "cool stuff". You need to show them different areas and then let them decide when they're old enough.
Unless you're a genius that built an atom smasher in his garage while he was in high school. Not everyone is like that, many finish college and then realize that they would prefer working in another field. -
there isn't really much we can do about this problem, we'd need to completely reshape our capitalist system to change anything
-
when i first look at the table of elements, damn this is cool, as we study it, i wonder why are we studying it, and not even one experiment in my school days we get to see that table of elements in action
-
pretty much got into it after school,i feel so grateful for the greatness of the system
-
Artists say we are all born artists, and scientists say we are all born scientists.
-
Yet the system is stubborn and unresponsive to the thought of change. It's actually sad now knowing how many potential scientists would have turned to something else cause of the system.

You become a scientist to discover new stuff, you first have to learn all the past human knowledge of the subjet you want to reaserch before discovering new stuff. People are just lazy and want every thing to be easy, there is no shortcut to becoming good. Is just huge grind before you get to the exiting stuff. The football player has to run every day just to play one game a week, is the same in science, you have to study every day so you can one day start working in the exiting projects.
I simply dont understand the point of this video, she is studying to become a geologist, ofcourse she need to learn on the name of the minerals, and it is just one fucking exam, I bet you the next month she had the exam about the teutonic plates.
Whatever, kids if you want to be good at something, there is always grind, there is no shortcut. Make a goal and follow that goal, dont listen what people say. -
Either dad attribute daily comfortable consider.

This guy is simply wrong here, some sciences need memorization and some do not. Organic chemistry needs lots of memorization. Geology certainly needs some. Not everything is physics and math.
-
Funny thing is that in fifth grade, I completely aced the kind of geology test that Dr. Kaku describes.

HELLO BRUCE LEE! YOU LYING COCKSUCKER! YOU ARE NO GRANDMASTER! YOU ARE A FUCKING JOKE! HOW DO YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT?

The same pass in Portugal on Mathematics

Michio is right here. Too bat he can't notice that same issue with his own generation (and himself of course). Second humiliation will be after theory of relativity fails.
-
Teach yourself,....... its much easier...... I did that, and now I earn over 1 million dollars per year, and I love my job, I run my own company, ... The universities can go and get fucked...
-
society and status quo that paid him so well to defend it whenever it is necessary..
-
Goddamn you, puberty.

I found my idol!

I definitely agree. The presentation on subjects can have a huge impact on a student's curiosity and wanting to learn more. Like math for example teachers teach math to student as something that is important and they must know, but they fail to make us realize how we can use it in our everyday lives to benefit ourselves
