The Milky Way: Crash Course Astronomy #37
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Today we’re talking about our galactic neighborhood: The Milky Way. It’s a disk galaxy, a collection of dust, gas, and hundreds of billions of stars, with the Sun located about halfway out from the center. The disk has grand spiral patterns in it, formed by the traffic jams of stars and nebulae, where stars are born. The central region is shaped like a bar, and is mostly old, red stars. There’s also a halo surrounding us of old stars. If anybody wants to see my Vlogs, please do.

The size of the universe is just mind blowing-our galaxy is huge but nothing in the grand scheme of things. Crazy lol

Jeb seems a little concerned.

41 are from Andromeda

What distinguishes these videos is that the guy is not afraid to say "we don't know" something - so you get a bigger picture
-
can someone explain how scientist know "so much" about milky way... and "we are here" (pointing our location on the galaxy) when voyager 1, the farthest satellit e barely left the solar system?
-
The graphics at 3.40, is it a program?

I literally got some milk while watching this episode...
-
If we are inside the Milky Way, how can there be pictures of it from the outside?until I know, it would take some lightyears to get out of our galaxy, right? So, how can we know its shape and see images of it if we haven't get out of it? It's as if my stomach had a camera that could take a picture of my entire body... Explain me, please!
-
how old is the milky way?
-
Would have been nice to have a few 'we are here' signs on the milky way pictures lol
-
humanity must take over and conquer the milky way galaxy!
-
It gives us an idea of how small and insignificant we are. But the only thing the world cares about are reality shows, constant annihilation and domination through wars among ourselves, and racial cultural differences that divide mankind. We should be learning how to advance mankind, understand our place in the cosmos, and learn how to harness it. Right now, we are living in the Dark Ages.

It looks more like a football ball to me...

I am confused. English is not my 1st language. What is a bar? I expect it not to be a piece of soap or the place where you can get drunk... So what is it?

7:28 "Milky-Wayolobists: Not a real word... YET"
First point: You misspelled "milky-wayologists". :V
Second point: I think I like "galaxists" better. :3 -
listening to this while exploring in elite dangerous, must have gotten through ten of these already. man, shame we cant explore these place in real life, physically visiting these places.
