1. The third sex
   The evolution of the progressively more double-poled human being, who in the final phase becomes complete and fully independent, is shown statistically with more and more adults living on their own. It is also the progressive evolution of double-poledness, which means that one can eventually have sympathy for one’s own sex. According to Martinus’ analyses, the double-poled state of consciousness will at a later stage in evolution also be followed up by a new double-poled type of organism (See LB5 §1886-1918).
   Martinus’ prediction about the evolution of the double-poled human being could be scientifically documented by mapping certain human qualities during the course of history. Such a programmed or law-bound evolution from the instinctive and one-poled animal to the intellectual and double-poled human being is entirely outside the framework of Darwinism, which bases itself solely upon chance and natural selection. In this area Martinus’ analyses of the human sexual pole transformation can be said to be unique and there are, as mentioned, ideal opportunities for them to be tested by scientific studies.

   According to Martinus’ analyses Christ belonged to the third gender. He was double-poled with the feminine and masculine pole in complete equilibrium (LB5 §1892-1895). Although Christ had a man’s body, his mentality was completely double-poled and all-loving. Double-poledness is namely the organic prerequisite to practising a totally impartial love in the form of neighbourly love.
   The analyses show that universal love and sexuality constitute the same principle and Martinus also touches fleetingly upon Jesus’ sexuality in the place where he writes that Jesus’ heart was not a lump of ice (Logic, chap. 36-37).
   Martinus does not write specifically about either his own or Jesus’ sexuality, but if one wants to know more about this then one can read the general analysis of the sexuality of the double-poled and cosmically conscious human being in Livets Bog (LB5 §1900-1909).
   In a lecture Martinus emphasizes that he himself was completely double-poled with the masculine and feminine pole in perfect balance. Martinus said: “I am double-poled, I am totally in balance. I have cosmic consciousness”. (Martinus, lecture in Klint, 26.06.1977).
   An organic prerequisite for gaining full cosmic consciousness is that a person has the two sexual poles in balance. No man or woman disposed to marriage will thus be able to get cosmic consciousness (EWP3 symbol no. 33, Collected Articles 1, §41.27).

2. THE TWO SEXUAL POLES MERGING AND BEING'S SEXUAL TRANSFORMATION FROM ANIMAL TO HUMAN
   1935. With regard to the two poles, then the ordinary pole, that is, the masculine pole in the man and the feminine pole in the woman, has in its release centre in the sexual organs. The latent or opposite pole, that is, masculine pole in the woman and the feminine pole in the man, has its release centre in the brain organs. In the normal terrestrial human being, these two centres are still clearly separate. But gradually, as evolution progresses and the opposite pole increases, a connecting line, a kind of mental main nerve, grows between the two centres. It begins as a radiant offshoot from both centres, that is, from the brain and from the sexual centre in region of the spinal cord. These two offshoots continue to grow until they reach one another one day and immediately make a connection. This in turn means that full contact also arises at that moment between the sexual brain centre and the sexual mating centre or centre for attraction. The being becomes completely awake day-conscious in its opposite pole, which at that very moment is being overshadowed by the centre for sexual attraction. Attraction to, or love for, its own sex then arises in the being, but this love has nothing to do with marriage. Indeed, this new feeling of attraction differs from the previous sexual attraction, which was a mobilisation of energy for mating and thereby for the desire for ownership of another being that we know as "amorous love", by being true love. This in turn means an expression of energy that definitely does not aim to possess or own anyone or anything, but senses nothing but an all-encompassing feeling of pleasure in serving everything and everyone in contact with the divine laws. The appearance of one’s fellow beings as men or women is no longer the object of the culmination of love, but the "human being" in the human being is. […]

3. THE THIRD SEX by Ole Therkelsen [Martinus and the New World Morality]
   The last 3,500 years, with The Old and New Testaments, and the next 3,000 years, with The Third Testament, becomes a major theme in the Cosmology. The final thing that people must learn is to be of benefit to all that is living, to bring happiness and blessings, and this means to live in harmony with the law of life or love’s great commandment: “love one another”.
   Human consciousness and the human sexual structure are undergoing a great transformation during these centuries. Martinus has described this in more than 500 pages, consisting of the entire volume of Livets Bog 5, Two Kinds of Love and The Eternal World Picture 3, at symbol no. 33.
   Already in 1932 in LB1 §130-132, Martinus discusses terrestrial man’s sexual transformation, which takes place in three major stages: the zone of happy marriages, the zone of unhappy marriages and the zone of infertility. This evolution from animal to human, from egotism to altruism, from partial love and falling in love to impartial universal love follows the laws of nature or the timetable of evolution.
   The arrival of a new human being in our day can be seen amongst others things with the way men and women begin to resemble each other more and more. The masculine grows in the woman and the feminine in the man, which is the organic basis for the beginning evolution of the equality of the sexes. The evolution from animal to human, according to Martinus, is not only natural but is also an unavoidable process in the creation of “the finished human being in God’s image”, which is a double-poled being with the masculine and the feminine poles in complete equilibrium. The finished human being loves all and has no favourites because its double-poledness no longer has any organic mental basis to prefer one gender to another. The Godhead, which is the sum of all living beings, is thus in itself also double-poled.
   The biggest surprise in Martinus Cosmology must be that according to the laws or timetable of evolution there should arise a new sex – a third sex. One takes it for granted that in the past there has been man and woman, that today there is man and woman, and that in the future there will also continue to be man and woman. But according to Martinus there will not continue to be man and woman; there will as mentioned come into being a third sex! The third sex is represented by the double-poled sex that in its fully evolved state has the masculine and the feminine in equal balance in its consciousness. Males and females, men and women, are half-sex beings that live in mutual dependence upon each other.

5. 1.1 WHO WAS MARTINUS?
   Life is a fairy-tale. When we look back over the millennia, we see that once in a long while a truly extraordinary genius is born, a prophet or world-renewer. I am convinced that our beautiful green and blue planet has received a visit from such a fantastic person in our time, namely Martinus (1890–1981). He was born out of wedlock in the small village of Sindal in north Jutland, Denmark, where he spent his childhood and the early part of his youth. He subsequently worked in various dairies around the province until he acquired cosmic consciousness at the age of thirty. During the last 60 years of his 90-year long life, he created a completely new science and world picture on the basis of his cosmic intuition – an Eternal World Picture (EWP).
   Martinus referred to his work as a science of love. He considered it to be an intellectualised or scientifically based Christianity. So in 1975 he began to call his collected works The Third Testament, because he felt that his spiritual science was in fact the promised continuation of the Old and New Testaments in the form of the divine advocate, the Holy Spirit (John 16, 12–15 and 14, 26). He also used the expression the Martinus Cosmology to designate his work. Cosmology is defined as the branch of philosophy concerned with the origin and nature of the universe. Cosmos stands in opposition to chaos – it implies a well-ordered universe based on laws. In brief, the Martinus Cosmology is a description of an ordered universe. It is a science of life showing that everything has a meaning, every detail is indispensable to the whole, and that in its final analysis everything is logical, purposeful and loving.
   
   1.2 WHAT WAS THE BACKGROUND TO MARTINUS’ WORK?
   In the Preface to his main work Livets Bog (LB1–7), Martinus writes of the profound transformation of consciousness that formed the background to his entire written works. He tells us that at Easter 1921 he underwent the white and then the golden baptism of fire that endowed him with cosmic consciousness.
   
   He writes: “The cosmic baptism of fire that I experienced and which I cannot explain in more detail at this point had left me with new senses that allowed me to perceive the spiritual forces, invisible causes, eternal universal laws, basic energies and basic principles underlying the physical world, not merely as glimpses – but as a permanent condition of wide-awake day consciousness. So the mystery of existence ceased to be a mystery for me. I had become conscious in the life of the universe and had become initiated into the divine creative principle” (Livets Bog1 §21).
   
   This transformation of consciousness and associated new insight became the starting point for an authorship that lasted for 60 years.
   
   1.3 WHAT DOES LIFE LOOK LIKE FROM AN ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE?
   After his cosmic baptism of fire, Martinus discovered that he had gained new senses and was able to see into eternity itself.
   
   He writes: “I saw that I was an immortal being, and that all other beings in existence were eternal realities, who like myself had an endless series of earlier lives behind them, that we had all evolved from low primitive forms of existence to our present stage, and that this was merely a provisional stage along this evolutionary scale, and that we are on our way towards extremely highly advanced forms of existence in the distant future. I saw that the universe consisted of a single vast living being in which all other beings are organs, and that all of us – human beings, animals, plants and minerals – comprise a single family, may be said to be of the same flesh and blood” (Livets Bog 1 §21).
