The Improbable Rise of Planet Earth
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Planet hunters have detected nearly 5000 confirmed and candidate planets beyond our solar system. Most sun-like stars, it seems, are ringed with giant planets that crowd their parent stars and leave no room for planets like ours. The old theories about planetary formation are giving way to a new one defined by fierce gravitational battles and titanic collisions. How did Earth manage to survive?

Funny how some people will run away from anything pertaining to space. To them the thought of infinity scares the piss out of them.

Venus is in the Sun's habitable zone. If it had evolved differently, we could have had another livable planet. If Mars had been larger and had had a molten core similar to Earth's, ditto. Just putting Venus where Mars is would have made it inhabitable. I read that Venus once had as much water as Earth.

I have a question. I heard that the Kepler telescope finds exoplanets by the shadow they make when they pass between the telescope and the planet's star. But what if the exoplanet's orbit is not passing between us and it's star? What if that system's disk is angled differently than the telescope's point of view?

A very educational video. Could you imagine the additional knowledge provided if it wasn't paid for by university graduates parents? We are limited of knowledge biased on the amount of money spent on education for our kids. Basically our barrier of knowledge is how much we have to spend for knowledge. How much we spend... Spend.. wtf..

Is there a limit to the size/density of terrestrial planets?

Is there going to be a telescope to replace Hubble? An imagining telescope so we can see images once again?

Except Path Integral / sum over histories... Doesn't that mean that whatever actually happens is actually the most probable thing?
