The Imagined Village - Empire & Love - 'Space Girl' (full animation)

From 'Empire & Love', the latest album from The Imagined Village, released Jan 10th 2010 on Emmerson, Concrake and Constantine Records. www.theimaginedvillage.com www.myspace.com/theimaginedvillage One of the most unusual collaborations of the past decade, The Imagined Village made a significant impression with their critically acclaimed and commercially successful debut album (released via Peter Gabriel's Real World label). They toured extensively, appeared on TV's Later...With Jools show and won out at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. If the band had initially developed as a loose collective of singers and musicians, they have subsequently consolidated into a working, growing, organic aggregation. This stability in personnel is shiningly reflected in the brand new, follow-up album, which is also their first on the new record label ECC. Titled "Empire and Love", it is released on 11 January 2010, a few days prior to a major UK tour that will include prestigious gigs at Scotland's Celtic Connections Festival and London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. The music on Empire and Love is played by the 'Parish Council' of Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Chris Wood, Simon Emmerson, Barney Morse Brown, Sheema Mukerjhee, Johnny Kalsi, Andy Gangadeen, Ali Friend and Simon Palmskin Richmond. Animation by Henry Lambourne and Dominic Noble www.henrylambourne.com

My mama told me I should never venture into space,
But I did, I did, I did,
She said no terran girl could trust the martian race,
But I did, I did, I did.
A rocket pilot aked me on a voyage to go,
And I was so romantic, I couldn't say no
That he was just a servo robot how was I to know?
So I did, I did, I did.
She told me never venture out among the asteroids
But I did, I did, I did.
She said the Milky Way was something to avoid
So I did, I did, I did.
She said that Venus was too hot and Saturn not much fun
And bug-eyed monsters tended to be just a trifle dumb.
She said I'd need a blaster and I'd need a freezer gun
And I did, I did, I did.
My mama told me never trust a space engineer
But I did, I did, I did.
She said freefall and superdrive would surely cost me dear
And they did, they did, they did.
I've been as far in hyperspace as anybody can,
I've travelled through the time warp in the Psycho Plan.
They say a gal must travel for to find her superman
And I did, I did, I did. -

This is fantastic! Great music, singer and the video is so different and quirky. 10/10.

dont listen while writing your PhD thesis in the silent part of any university. it gives moves to your shoulders first then you get up and dance.. people might freak out...
-
What I can say is very nice song...
-
Pretty song, pretty animation, pretty rotten content. Old 'don't let your daughters interact with otherness' xenophobia wrapped in sugar.
-
Not surprising, considering that it is a caricature of her.
-
