*NOTE* This video contains an error. At 0:54 an animation representing the radial velocity method for finding exoplanets is incorrect. Here is a link to a correct representation https://www.eso.org/public/unitedkingdom/videos/eso1035g/ Astronomers have discovered evidence of a small, rocky planet orbiting our nearest star – and it may even be a bit like Earth. Nobody knows whether the planet, called Proxima b, could ever sustain life. The little planet orbits our sun’s nearest neighbouring star, Proxima Centauri, making it the closest exoplanet ever found. isn't that "planet making the star wobble" depiction wrong? they should both revolve around their common barycenter as far as i know.

The comment section is pure cancer.

+nature video .. If we can't even get to the moon because of the Van Allan belt which would radiate anything trying to pass thru, then how would we ever get to that planet which you mentioned ??

What is the music?

Wonderful combination of detailed science, beautiful narration, and high quality video simulation. Shamini, thank you so much, Bob

I don't think you can have life on a planet with a red dwarf star (especially in a multiple star system) Like in the video the the planet would have to have a tremendous magnetic field. Red Dwarf stars put out flares that are 10000s of times worse than our sun, and being that the planet has to be so close to the star in order to keep water in liquid I think there is no way life can exist there.
This leads me to say this.. Because red dwarfs are the most numerous stars in our galaxies, and because I don't think life can survive on a planet close to a red dwarf, I believe we are the only planet inhabited by intelligent life. At least in this galaxy. Look at the odds here. Trillions and trillions to one odds that our planet is even here and has a double sized core. Another trillion to one that intelligent life spring here. I think life is out there, just not intelligent life. The galaxy is ours.. -
