I was 15 when this happened and I remember watching it live, remembering as if it just happened yesterday. So very sad. 😢

RIP Tom Miniter...

I remember working the night shift at my job then. I was sound asleep, and then my Mom woke me up saying: " Rob, wake up...the Space Shuttle just blew up"! I couldn't go back to sleep after that! RIP Christa McAuliff and the rest of the crew

They should've listened to the guy that said the o rings wouldn't expand from the cold weather.
-
"Ice on the launch pad does not present any problem" ARGH! Pat Buchanan- Worse ...

These people are not alive today. Just all there twins ;)

I am glad this recording included over 30 minutes of regular reporting; it really demonstrates just how far cable news and CNN has regressed. No pundits or commentary; even during the Challenger coverage, you did not see "Breaking News" updates unlike today when any report is labeled "breaking." Today that term has lost all meaning.

46:45 - Someone sees the parachute, thinks it's the crew, starts clapping.
"Don't start clapping, you're on the air!" -
The fact that I am watching what happened 30 years ago make me feel old! I was 5 years old back then! :(

Launch at 37:00

There is nothing called ''the challenger''

It's a shame the Shuttle didn't have a cockpit ejection system, if it had, they might've survived.

I was pulling out of my driveway in a 1985 Ford Bronco II when I heard the news.

So far 111 Challenger Hoaxers had the misfortune of being thrown out into space without the benefit of a spacesuit by Captain Ginyu!
-
"It looked like it wasn't going to work today, but apparently they figured it out" <shuttle promptly is engulfed in fire>
Of course, it's NASA's fault for launching when the engineers said "DO NOT LAUNCH THE SHUTTLE" -
I went to college with some people who were in third grade when this event happened, watched it on the news that day in their class. To this day, they can't watch the footage, they have to turn away from it.

Does anyone on earth have the unaltered television footage of the explosion? That darker, grainier side view at the moment of explosion was cut in later on during that day. The original scene of the disaster was one continuous shot.
