The Big Bang and the Buddha's View of the Universe
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Bhante Explains Buddhist Cosmology and how the Buddhas view of the universe may be very close to today's view. In fact, Hubble proved the universe is currently expanding which is in accordance with the fact that the Buddha said the universe can only support life in the expanding phase of 4 phases. I think it's not correct to mix up Buddha's teachings with teachings of science, such as Big Bang, that's one of the fundamental things that I learned from Monks here in Sri Lanka, never compare science and Buddhism.
Buddhism and Science are two totally different things fundamentally. -

Hi Bhante so I can say that the consciousness energy is born of my karmic action from the past, and the karmic action is actually created from me either in human form, animal form,or formless existence?
-
Or human is being born first and then create the consciousness from the brain? I often heard the consciousness is separated from the brain, how true is that?
-
Hi Bhante thank you so much for the wisdom shared, another thing I wish to know, since our thought reborn every moment, and our consciousness aware of it and hence it creates store consciousness, where does the very first consciousness come from? Does it just exist like that as part of nature?
-
Anyone can explain where does the first human comes from?
Does it come from the manifest of nature and it slowly evolves????? -
What's outside of the universe?

I see Buddhism as Hindu philosophy.

Buddha didn't give an exact number of a kalpa since it's incalculable. However it has been metaphorically explained. Theoretically, a large empty cube large as 16-miles square exists. If you insert a tiny mustard seed every hundred years, the cube would be filled before the kalpa ends. This is an immense period of time.
-
The definition of a kalpa equalling 4.32 billion years

If you analyze and see the big picture of Buddhist scriptures it would not be possible to agree with Bhante Vimalaramsi!'s explanation or rather interpretation. Here are some hints why: 1. No cosmology or rebirth of human in Buddhism. The research is limited to mind. The behavior of infinitesimal mind (chiththaksha) 2. Kalpa measure assumption to years is wrong. Kalpa means an area of chiththaksha. Related terms are san+kalpa, mana+kalpa, a+kalpa, pari+kalpa.

Well, it's good to have both :)
