Not to contradict you, but the "Big Bang Theory" did have a name; it was called the "Hypothesis of the Primeval Atom" by the physicist who created it, Georges Lemaitre. And while it's true that Fred Hoyle consistently took positions counter to most of his contemporaries, he didn't propose the Steady State theory "just to do something else." He did it because he was so adamantly opposed to the interpretation of the "Big Bang" theory; ie., that the universe had a creation event. From Hoyle's perspective, it probably didn't help that in addition to being a physicist, Georges Lemaitre was also a Belgian priest.

Thanks for your videos, you are an excellent communicator. I am interested in your thoughts on, as well as, any recent bibliography on Multiverse theory / Cyclic Theory as an extension or reworking of 'Big Bang' theories. THANKS!!!

I have a question maybe very stupid, but since the energy in the universe is supposed to be balanced all the time, does it mean more matters(their existence surely means more energy I assume) popping up when the universe is expanding actually breaks this rule?
If say it's just the distance among particles are increasing, whatever the dark matter is, when it is repelling everything by using up its energy, it becomes the space itself fills the extra distance between particles? So the rule is kept? -
makes me sad when a super smart person who stats actually facts about our universe gets only 705 views and when some conspiracy plotting nut makes a video they get thousands =/

I've been following astronomy for several years and never knew there was an alternative theory to the Big Bang. Thanks!

I have a question. can relativistic mass have relativistic gravity or something? Or doesn't relativistic mass exist? thanks

I'm so excited about this channel. Keep the good work!

I always like the under dog. How about a vid on alternative GUTs?

How do we know that the accelerating rate at which the universe is currently expanding will be constant given that the inflation period shortly after the big bang showed a completely different rate of expansion? My point is, the universe's expansion rate isn't constant through all of history so could it change again?

i though about something similar, but galaxy clusters should have collapsed into a huge mega galaxy by now. Also the ratio of elements should be off, right? And what about the CMB?
I'm certeinly no phisicis But shouldn't there be something like this? I mean in the big bang there was the same amount of matter/antimatter and we were left with matter, when matter/antimatter pairs are created and anihilated at random shouldn't we be left with some extra matter? -
You forgot to put the subscribe button in the video.

That infinity tattoo tho. Can we get an inside story? :)

Thanks for another thought provoking video, Paul. Hoyle and Feynman were great personal friends. I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall, snooping as they discussed cosmology and QED and other matters esoteric.
