I dig what Akon is saying but the key words is when he said "Where I come from." He knows where he came from and blacks do not. I have alot of friends from what we consider "third world countries." They all think that blacks should be happy and should be grateful for what we have and the opportunities that America has given us. But it's easy for them to say because they actually know their heritage and their culture. Blacks were robbed of that. We were stripped of our heritage, our culture and our religion. We were a people forced to conform to western civilization or "white" civilization. We have no idea of our true identity. Being a lost people in a strange land is not easy.

There are many people that call themselves an entrepreneur or in Africa, a business man . . . People, this right here, right here . . . is a business man, entrepreneur and everything wrapped into one . . . this dude speaks in yard sticks and margins, even his album as been positioned to yield maximum profit . . . I agree with everything Akon said, apart for the whole concept of United States of Africa, no thank you, we shall allow the United States of America, China and everyone else to have that burden. . .

The woman seems antagonistic but Akon's responses are intelligent and articulate, no pressure at all from her attitude.A great interview still.

I think that the interviewer didn't want to be soft on Akon because he is so charming and well liked.

I've talked with Africans who have come to this country, and please, when you Africans talk to us about black American, your arrogant, condescending, and a lot of other things I won't elaborate. But from my perspective, one where I have delt with the racism, discrimination from whites, and other kinds of abuse, it's peculiar to me when Africans. who, just like African Americans make it in this society, don't seem to understand the struggles African Americans have had to shoulder, that allows them to excel in what ever endeavor they may have become actualized in. They don't seem to get it; what they are able to enjoy here is free to them, because of the price paid by African Americans. And as recent developments show, those fights are yet being waged, while this guy is still enjoying the fruits of it, you feel me?
-
America used us to build America, but it wasn't their intent that we should enjoy the fruits of our labor.
