Space Shuttle Columbia landed at Edwards Air Force Base, California on 16 November 1982 at the conclusion of mission STS-5. Columbia is seen high over the Mojave Desert as it approaches Edwards AFB to land on paved runway 22, performing a braking test in the process. Vance D. Brand was mission commander; pilot was Robert F. Overmyer; mission specialists were Joseph P. Allen and William B. Lenoir. The mission traveled 2,110,849 statute miles over five days. This was the first shuttle mission to deploy commercial communications satellites. We hope you will subscribe to the Airailimages Channel.
