SpaceX's plan to colonize Mars, explained
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Elon Musk gave the biggest talk of his life in Guadalajara, Mexico, where he detailed his plans to set up a self-sustaining colony of 1 million people on Mars. He knows the rockets and spaceships he wants to build, but many questions still need to be answered if he wants to pull off such an ambitious feat. The Verge's Loren Grush breaks down some of the challenges with input from Bill Nye (CEO of The Planetary Society) and Will Pomerantz (VP Special Projects, Virgin Galactic). Chemical rockets are not the way to go. They need something different.
-
Right............. You can,t breath, eat or drink on Mars !!!!!!
Would it be a better idea to use all the billions trying to get to Mars to fix Earth rather than send humans to another planet and spread human contamination.
Human race definition is parasite. -
Moon first. Mars second.
-
I have to admit that there are a lot of problems to solve, but there are thousands of people working for SpaceX to solve these problems right now
-
well , well all of this sound beautiful . but how are you going to send astronauts to mars ? you don't have secured spacecraft , they are at their early development stage and more likely to explode and kill everybody on board

Cancer risks on mars is slightly less that of a smoker on earth. Yeah its serious but not so serious that you cant survive. And that's assuming you believe in the total bullshit linear no threshold model, so in reality its probably a lot less risky than being a smoker.

I hope Humans don't spread religion in mars

Atleast someone has the guts to do it.
There is lots of genius just Talk and did nothing.
So before you guys talk about Elon think about yourself can you do what Elon is trying to do.
Please just watch when people will be on mars and your turn will come to jump on the flight to go there. -

When I'm on Mars in like 25 years I'm gonna look back to this and think "bish what you mean"
-
yup you need another "explanation" after Elon Musk's explanation...😂😂😂 I mean come on, it's excruciating to listen to the guy...😫😫😫

Going to Mars mean taking the risk of dying of course. So who care if it fail, the worst could happen is die. All human die anyway. Why care so much about sh=*t. Just go DO IT and figure it out later on.

Simply explained, space is fake CGI bullshit that weaklings love to ponder...

The combined delta-vee from low Earth orbit to low Mars orbit is about seven kilometers per second for a typical elliptical (relative to the sun) transfer orbit. Most of the reduction in time made possible by using a hyperbolic transfer orbit isn't an increase in speed, but in a reduction in the Earth departure to Mars intercept distance.
Or, I should say, both the speed in the hyperbolic transfer orbit is greater and the distance traveled is less. The departure delta-vee for the 80-day hyperbolic transfer orbit probably isn't as much greater than that of the typical elliptical transfer orbit as you might think it is.
There are theoretical transfer orbits that do require unfeasibly high delta-vees, sometimes as much as 80 km/sec, but these pop out of computers when the transfer orbit is retrograde with respect to the motions of the departure planet and/or the destination planet. -
If you wanna establish a space colony on mars or on the moon - first You need semi-autonomous digger bots: You need to prepare underground chambers for the ppl to stay at. Plus, digging a tunnel underground required very little added materials while building a pressurized hallway between chambers above ground, requires a lot of them. It's best if several main chambers are dug and interconnected before the human team even leaves Earth.

Just use the EM drive!
-
Mexicans want to go to Mars. It's probably better than Mexico am I right?
-
The M-Drive works! (per NASA) That's a huge game changer!
