US company SpaceX has successfully landed an unmanned rocket upright, after sending 11 satellites into orbit. The Falcon-9 craft touched down late on Monday night, about 10km from its launch pad at Cape Canaveral, Florida. It is not the first spacecraft to land a booster vertically; that feat was claimed by the much smaller New Shepard rocket in Texas last month. Nonetheless the Falcon-9 flight, which also went twice as high as New Shepard, is a milestone towards reusing rockets. New shepard should not be compared to the facon 9. New shepard goes up, then comes back down, it can't actually deliver a payload to orbit, this is a huge difference that most people don't seem to understand.

The rocket performed a full boostback manoeuvre, where it fully reversed its forward motion (away from cape canaveral) into a ballistic arc back to the cape. -

This is more like Kerbal Space program than NASA. This just proves further to me that NASA is either run by idiots or completely fake. As in they arn't really even trying to do anything but waste money. They have been using the shuttle program for decades now even though it cost10x as much to send 10x less into space than the Apollo style rockets b/c supposedly the boosters are recoverable. Yet they almost never recover anything useful from them. Here space X after only a few years and without a 20 billion dollar a year budget manage to do what NASA has failed to do for over 30 years.
