Can anyone tell me if the Space X uses reusable features of Falcon 9 during launches as of now.I know that it has first stage re-usability, but is it used? In the past agencies have developed reusable vehicles only to use them as expendables because of financial constraints, is this the case with Falcon 9?

I LOVE SPACEX.

😀coooooooooool!!!!👍👍👍👍

Can't find this video on Spacex's channel. Also, the link you provided is now broken.

It would be so cool to to be able to fly the two parts of the faring back to a controlled landing on a air strip. Cover them with a heat blanket use three sticks for landing gear and a couple of flaps for guidance?

Another shipment of sporks to space station..

what is this some new PlayStation or Nintendo game?

Perfect song. The fat cats must be having heart attacks watching this video!

The first stage is proving tricky, we'll have to wait till the next gen for a reusable second stage.

Elon Musk should upgrade Falcon 9 with Electromagnetic engines for orbital transfer, once in space the EM engines would provide superior constant thrust to get into and out of orbit faster, instead having to coast all the way, same goes for the Mars mission, even with Falcon Heavy it will take months of 0G coasting, then only reentry rockets. with EM engines like VASMIR a round trip can take a month, that's to Mars and back ! with plasma fuel to spare.

это супер, Илон - гений!

I can't believe they managed to land this thing on a barge in the middle of the ocean. Elon just got that much closer to 1 million people on Mars.

What's the music in this video!!
-
How is the 2nd stage going to pitch over for propulsive landing after re-entry with all the aerodynamic forces acting on it?
-
Anyone else waiting for the camera to adjust like in KSP after the docking?

I'm surprised they haven't considered Ion drive for de-orbiting the second stage. Solar cells and high yield short life batteries would not weigh that much. In addition, from GSO Apoapse , and with ION drive and lots of time to correct, you could enter the atmosphere in such a shallow trajectory that thermal protection would need to be minimal, and since its an automated return, it doesn't really matter how long it takes to retrieve. With such a trajectory, you could even use a carbon fiber, flat mesh drogue with four point control deployed high in the mesosphere to assist in aerobraking, so you could get Apoapse height reduction essentially for free.. All very lightweight. Heck, why not take a few days to get back and make it really gentle? Whatever Delta V you keep on board for retro and landing burns could be dual purposed for emergency de-orbit in case anything goes wrong and you have to put the stage into the ocean.

Great stuff! I can't wait to see a SpaceX starship!
