SpaceX Falcon 9 Rocket Explodes During CRS-7 Launch
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
During today's launch attempt of a Falcon 9 rocket a probable issue in the second stage caused the breakup of the rocket, teams on the ground have begun an investigation. The launch was due put the Dragon CRS-7 spacecraft into orbit full of cargo for the International Space Station, vital since the loss of Progress and the stand down of the Antares rocket due to its malfunction last year.

Imagine if this was a nuclear war.

2:53 Wow... Michael Bay and JJ Abrams were working together... soo much lensflare xD
-
SpaceX needs to stop letting Michael Bay build all their rockets.
-
So weird how it just vaporizes into a puff of smoke with no fiery explosion. Not enough air at that altitude for fire to burn?
-
Never figured out why the rockets or space shuttle goes sideways and not straight up and out to space.
-
It's weird not seeing fire when there's an exploiting
-
Alright, show is over, go back to whatever you were doing.
-
their shuttles and rockets explode because NOTHING can get through Earth's Magnetosphere! Nothing can get in and nothing can get out! NASA lies!
-
That awkward moment when you muck up ur staging a fire ur second stage before de-coupling.
Just ksp/spaceX things -
Oh it had a 'launch vehicle failure' it exploded , one word, crashed whatever
-
They will not get out of the firmament...thank GOD!!!!!
-
RIP Jebediah Kerman :(
-
too bad they can't eject the payload before hitting the destruct button.
-
Where do they launch these rockets from what state?
-
Every thing about SpaceX is fake as shit.
-
Where is the flames, all i see is vapor . Where is the explosion?
-
Check O rings next time you muppets

Performance was nominal until 139 seconds into launch when a cloud of white vapor appeared, followed by a rapid loss of pressure in the liquid oxygen tank of the Falcon 9's second stage. The booster continued on its trajectory until the vehicle completely broke up several seconds later. The Dragon CRS-7 capsule was ejected from the exploding launch vehicle and continued transmitting data until it impacted with the ocean. SpaceX officials stated that it could have been recovered if the parachutes had deployed, but the software in the capsule did not include any provisions for parachute deployment in this situation. It is assumed that the capsule crumpled and broke up on impact. Subsequent investigation traced the accident to the failure of a strut which secured a high-pressure helium bottle inside the second stage's liquid oxygen tank. With the helium pressurization system integrity breached, excess helium quickly flooded the liquid oxygen tank, causing it to overpressurize and burst
