Why does the entire thing start to repeat itself at 44:30? The repeat went on for so long that I lost interest at that point.
OK, I get it. Space is dangerous. I won't go there.
There's a whole lot more repetition after 1:14:00. When somebody tells me the same tning several times, I get the impression they think I'm stupid.
I wish there was some sort of YouTube mechanism to block videos from certain sources, so that the thumbnail never even appears. -
What?! At 1:30, "With the cable still attached up in space, it will start swinging wildly, striking objects (it shows a car)". They seem to think that the satelite would remain in geo-synchronous orbit - but it's not being held there by gravity - it's being held by a cable - and if the cable came loose at the ground, the satelite would go into an eliptical orbit, taking the cable with it. I do think the cable would become a major problem to other spacecraft, because of its length and the fact tat it would be crossing the orbits of many other craft - but I don't think their analysis is accurate. I don't know what the effect would be if the cable came loose at the satellite end.
The operation of getting a spacecraft attached to a rope that is attached to the ground would be extraordinarly tricky - that's for sure. -
If the cable snaps it will fly away into space. It will be under very high tension until it breaks. Storms will not be significant due to the tiny sail area.
