not to be rude, but are you a noob?

Sadly, so much of this can be attributed to cleaner communication in you floopy awps team. If one person with experience had just taken the time to say "So, who's new? NUCLEAR OPS AM I RIGHT?" Could have taken the time to not only get you up to speed, but step everyone through a more cohesive plan than 'Be Robust Go Get Em'.
It's easier to say that retroactively than in the heat of the moment, but leaders need to lead, over acting like five strangers are mystically conjured as a well oiled machine.
Some might have found this painful, but the flubbing of Checkers is half of the fun of the character, to me. -
here is a nice tip for the next time you play with C-4, get a screw driver and a Remote Signaling Device you can turn them into trow-able uber grenades.
just make sure to use slightly different channels for each C4 you prime with the screwdriver to be used this way, or it ends badly for you, renaming your C-4 might help if you chuck them from space into the station, so you quickly adjust the RSD frequency to your current custom named C-4 grenade before your chuck it at your next batch of victims.
the innate number of c4 you get from the bag means you can effectively cleave the station in half by just trowing the c-4 around deeper into the station in a monobuttockular way, and still have some left to party with.
and this is rather newbie friendly tactic. assuming they know how big the C-4 impact is, what a RSD is and how it works, and have a trusty screwdriver.
the second tip for a slight more effective bang for your buck, but it is more risky but well worth it if you can do it several times.
just unscrew both the window and the support grill of a larger open area, and then chuck in a piece of C-4 toward said rooms corner where it creates the largest breach.
if you do this fast that is done in like 5 to 8 seconds extra, but it's doubles the C-4 potential, since half of a normal exterior explosion goes into space otherwise, simply maximize each hull breach section on the interior while most crew don''t have hard suits yet. -
I like the role play approach. Its more fun for everyone involved. And I think the server as a whole could only improve from more of it. But there are a couple of things I loosely like to make sure I follow.
Going along with the comments, how skilled or knowledgeable do I think my character is. If I am a janitor I would expect that I should know my way around a mop. But that isn't necessarily true. If I can find a fun role play reason that I only know how to use soap, that could be a lot of fun.
Now the janitor isn't an essential role in the shuttle's narrative. If I only went around using soap everywhere (basically getting nothing done) every single round that could get boring fast. But my incompetence doesn't impede on anyone else's ability to play the game. Even if you want to be full on role play, I would still try and put at least 10% of your energy into what your character should be doing. More if you are essential to the plot.
Part of the reason I think this is even a problem is the video game mentality of always winning. Winning can feel very rewarding and can often be faster at it than role play can. Even though role play can often lead to even more fun its hard to break a mentality that has been pushed on people for years. -
People that don't like the way you play the game can go watch someone else play the game. Tex constantly stresses his disregard for bring robust. Y'all mother fuckers need to move freight.

I always love watching your ss13 videos, it's really great seeing someone who doesn't go out of their way to just be a shitter as always. I've been really into engineering when i first started but now I'm getting really into sec and tater/nukeops a lot more as my favorite and only antags. murderboning antags that have no objectives related to it and doing it 4noraisins just makes what is supposed to be a roleplaying game into an action one that it isn't. Granted I play on the citadel server with some of the most unrobust of ss13 so security isn't that hard but protecting them from themselves can be.
-
Tex, please I beg you take some time to learn how to be more robust or disable antags in preferences.
