Space shuttle Endeavour atop NASA's Shuttle Carrier Aircraft flew over many Los Angeles area landmarks on its final ferry flight Sept. 21, 2012, including the 1984 Olympic Coliseum, the famous Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory, Disneyland, Dodger Stadium, Universal Studios, downtown Los Angeles, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the Malibu coastline and the California Science Center, where Endeavour will be displayed. The added bonus is the air traffic control chatter between LAX tower and the pilots of the 747. This is an extremely rare footage for space shuttle enthusiasts and aviation fans alike that will never happen again. For it's last flight, Endeavour is carried a top a Boeing 747 SCA. The space shuttle carrier and Endeavour were given the handle "Astro 95 Heavy" by air traffic control as Endeavour made her final tour over Los Angeles giving the space shuttle one last journey in flight before Endeavour enters her final days of retirement on display at the California Science Center. Endeavour was built as a replacement space shuttle to Challenger after Challenger was destroyed during launch on January 28, 1986. After the loss of space shuttle Columbia during re-entry on February 1, 2003, it was decided no replacement space shuttle would be built for Columbia and the entire space shuttle fleet would be retired in favor of alternative launch systems offering more safety for astronauts.
