It's a shame they couldn't land like a harrier jump jet that would have been awesome don't you think folks !

Internet , iPhones here we come

Landing a 100 ton glider with no engine power takes major skill, if you look at the runway the front tire left a perfect straight line. MAJOR SKILL .YOUNG AND CRIPPIN THE TWO BRAVEST MEN EVER.
-
i got a question, do the engines come back on during the landing or does it glide? i just want to know. I can imagine it glides and comes back on just before landing.
-
I was watching...along with my own heart...America's heart was "bursting with pride!" After all...the Space Shuttle was "something new and something new to be proud of."
-
John Young, what a pro
-
+DerCooleOnkeCharlie Yeah, wouldn't that make sense?
-
i miss Columbia...
-
There's one thing i wonder about. Why the roll program? Wouldnt it be smarter to put the shuttle in the right angle from the beginning?
-
this as actually the 2nd landing of the shuttle, the very first one was on traning.
-
Probably the most beautiful landing of them all...the first one!
-
My heart was not the only "American heart" that was bursting with pride...especially the "perfect landing"...really was "some kind of thrill."
-
I STILL cry when I watch this..... = P

None of the external tanks were painted after STS-2. It's possible that the video or photo you looked at had inaccurate color, or maybe it was just a particularly reddish orange hue on that batch of insulating foam.
-
Does anyone notice the tiles that were taken off
-
"what a way to come to california!" HA
-
@likeplaneboy that was the Star Spangled Banner, it is the national anthem of the United States. I still get chills watching this and every landing!
-
If Columbia was still around she'd be landing at Edwards today to go into a museum in Socal. the pride of palmdale
-
I was at the landing. Thanks to great grandparents who valued exposing their grandson to science at an early age. Columbia, she was a good ship.

Peccato che gli Stati Uniti abbiano preferito destinare le loro risorse alla guerra, pensate cosa avrebbero potuto fare con i miliardi di dollari spesi per distruggere altri Stati sovrani che mai avevano attaccato gli USA.....
