for all of the people that say we never go to space because they fly at an angle and far out over the ocean. the reason for that is to have the speed to get into and stay in orbit. in order to understand you need to know how an orbit works. gravity from the earth pulls objects in orbit towards earth but the objects are going fast enough to not fall straight to earth so they keep going around and around. its a balance of velocity and gravity. that is why they fly at an angle instead of straight up. if they were to fly straight up they would miss they height of orbit.

That guy in the back has a smile a mile wide. :)

Can someone explain the math of the gravity turn? It seems as though the Shuttle is spending most of its energy on lateral velocity, but how does Mission control calculate the steering commands?

Мужик в конце сидит так спокойно в окошко смотрит как в автобусе на работу едет )

Please do not feed the usual anti-NASA/ESA/ISS trolls, who vote "dislike". They themselves do not even believe their own BS. They are only spamming. Thank You.
Note to the trolls: I worked at JPL from 1973 to 1986. Do you have a problem with that? -
At 12.12 the naught that's eating has the sunshine directly on his face. I'm no expert but I'm sure without eye protection that would have been pretty painful, unless the windows have some sort of tint to prevent the problem. |Can anyone offer any info on this?

Rex Walheim... Ultimate badass with a shit eating grin on his face. And iirc it wasn't even his first time up!
