I prefer adlib.

adlib.soundblaster is superior to mt32 sounds practically every single time but this intro may be one of the rare exceptions. in most sierra games the mt32 completely ruins the songs
-
I too prefer the first version. Second version sounds cheesy to me.
-
huh so this is the adlibs full potential
-
I know the smoother sound and more realistic instruments is in the second version, but I can't help liking the sound of the original score better. I think it was because it was the music on the version I had and having such fond memories of it. It is an absolute classic game.

@SchlossRitter The reason for the similarity in sound between Sound Blaster and Genesis music is simple: FM synthesis. Specifically, they both used Yamaha FM chips, though different ones. Sound Blaster used Yamaha OPL3 (OPL2 in SB1.0), and Genesis used Yamaha OPN2.

I don't remember the FM soundtrack being so bad! Hmm... maybe I had my AWE-32 by the time I got to SQ4 (a couple years after it was released). I have an MT-32 now and didn't grow up with one. It was a really cool thing for 1987, that's for sure! It still has some really unique abilities.

Man, I love this music.
-
@SchlossRitter Id say the difference is bigger, the genesis was better than adlib while the snes wasnt as good as mt-32 (altho close)
-
@SchlossRitter Yeah, later Sierra games let you pick MT-32 for music and Soundblaster for sound effects.
