Well, it was nothing like the forced displacement of many whole cities for the Three Gorges Dam! Boating down the Shang Jang (just the bit at the ocean end is called the Yang-Tse, I believe) in 2004 was like wandering through a post-apocalyptic landscape or ghost story for hundreds of miles. Except for more brand new beautiful suspension bridges than are anywhere else on Earth.
Nice when you don't have to ask for your citizen's permission to relocate them!
Also, sounds like the beginning of "The Three Body Problem" by Cixin Liu. Those are good books, but I don't think anyone had to move house to get them written/published there or translated into English.
Did Arecibo use some colonial version of Eminent Domain to get built? -
It is a shame that some of humanity's most pioneering adventures into space and the study of the cosmos are too often fueled by political and ideological agendas. New dynamics now between the superpowers mean some parties now, once more, have that motivation that was lost with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Although the privatization of space exploration is an interesting new development...

So this telescope has hundreds of moveable panels. Those panels remind me of the design of the new James Webb Space Telescope. Are the panels on the JWST also moveable?

Yo Fraser, you read the study about expansion released by Oxford? Something about how the universe expansion rate might not be accelerating? I read a quick article about it on Phys.org. Probably not worth a video (yet, if ever) but interesting none-the-less.

It wil be really nice if you consecrate an Astronomy Cast episode for this topic, because i don't really understand how do radio telescopes work and how important can the data they collect be.
