A complete look at Orlandos Space Mountain after the 2009 refurb. Start with a history trip back to 1970, looking at the mountains concept and construction, the 1975 opening and the first RCA exterior, preshows, ride and Home of Future Living postshow. Then jump to 1985 for RCAs refurb to the exterior, preshow, and RYCA-1 Dream of a New World post show, and then fast forward again to the changes made to the exterior, preshow, holding with SMTV and postshow by FedEx. Finally, come to 2008 and look at the changes proposed to the attraction, the 2009 demolition and construction work in Space Mountain, the Skyway terminal, Galaxy Palace and the new stage, and then see what work was done outside and in when the attraction reopened. See the new plaza area, exterior, then take a multi angle, source/live audio tour of all the details of the whole preshow tunnel, holding and load areas, the ride, and the unload and postshow area. I like the current Space Mountain a lot better than the previous version, but I really wish they added the new rockets with onboard audio and new special effects like Disneyland's.

I did two summer tours in 85 and 86 and we still had the 4 cockpit trains and the seatbelts.

The one thing about the refurb I hate, is that it includes that game and I cannot tell you how many darn times I had stopped walking because some kid or adult wanted to play it when there was no lines.

I remember back in '09 (we had literally booked to have a 10 day stay in Orlando and it said "Space Mountain will be down for refurbishment until further notice!" and I was like "Oh man! I loved that ride..." but when I read a year later, it said that the ride was back on track with soft openings after the refurb had been finished and when we went in september, it was already open.

Those original seats 5:12, where you basically sat in someone's lap, that is two people per seat. I remember those.
It seemed so dangerous, but if there were many people in line and you were by yourself you might gain a new friend, a total stranger sitting in your lap, cool! -
Summer of 2008, that's when I was there last! Hope to visit again next year.

I am a chicken so I've never ridden Space Mountain, but this ride has some of the most iconic music of any ride at Disney. lol
