It's amazing to think that a company who, at one time, revolutionized and dominated the video game world has seen better days... but their spirit still burns and they still know how to knock one out of the park every once in a while. While far from their first game, Taito's 1978 Arcade game, "Space Invaders", brought the company worldwide acclaim. As such, it should come as no surprise that, to commemorate 30 years of pop culture madness, Taito (and Gulti) made sure to put out a game that would not disgrace the original, titled "Space Invaders Extreme". Being an excellent revamp, the game features updated graphics, sound and gameplay without going overboard (Ex: Space Raiders). It was published by Square Enix outside of Japan. For the younger crowd who may not be too familiar with Space Invaders, the premise of the game is to move horizontally across the bottom of the screen and fire at descending aliens. The aliens move back and forth across the screen as they advance towards the bottom of the screen, eliminating the player if successful. Sounds awfully simple and perhaps too mundane by today's standards, but it paved the way for many of the games we enjoy today, and this game has new power-ups, a new "soundtrack", multiplayer features, secrets and branching paths based on your skill level, boss battles, and a variety of other goodies. The game was also released for the Nintendo DS (with online game modes, score sharing, peripheral support, and a full Zuntata score... the PSP game has different music) and Xbox Live Arcade (HD graphics, a 4-player arcade mode, and DLC). A sequel was released only for Nintendo DS in 2009. This is a video of the game in action. The title is currently very cheap and there's almost no reason not to add it to your collection if you like action titles or classic games. Enjoy. - ADDITION - Like Us On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thegamingsanctuary/ Follow Us On Twitter: https://twitter.com/GS_Vyse_and_Bel Visit Us At: http://www.gamingsanctuary.com
