Space Invaders, Atari 2600 - The First Games
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
What do I need to say about Space Invaders? As Paul said, it's why people bought the 2600. One remarkable thing about this port is that it has so many game modes, which includes two-player modes, one of which we play here. The First Games is a series in which I play the first games I ever played, with my brother, who introduced me to gaming. Intro music is "Kick Shock" by Kevin MacLeod (www.incompetech.com). what is the value of a complete version with the case and everything?

Ooops - I didn't mean to confuse there. I think there was some code missing that I should have added to limit the fps which could have solved that. But I'm not going to change the code now mainly because it was an experiment and I want to see the coding progress of my work get better as I go along (if you know what I'm getting at). When I released it to the retro remakes community some people did say that the game was a little too difficult and I can see why.

Hehehe, thank. Although I think PacBilly could have managed it too.

Yeah they really hit on a very special formula with this game. Almost all of gaming history was influenced by it I would think.

Aww Pokemon Pinball? So is that basically knocking those balls around a pinball table with the creatures in them? I always thought Pokemon was an allegory for animal cruelty.

Yeah I guess at that point you'd just be counting how many times you'd flipped the score. I'd imagine that would get boring though.

At first I thought you meant you'd programmed the original game, but then I looked at your site and saw that you made a remake of it. I had a quick go but I found it runs much faster than in your video of the game. Perhaps the timing is dependent on processing speed. Other than that it looks like a decent remake.

Awesome game, both on arcades and on home systems. In nutshell it is so simple, but its playability and how addictive it is, made the game amazing. This and Demon Attack are two of my favorite 2600 shooters.

Till today still one of my favorite games, and pretty much the only reason why I bother taking my GBA with me some days (except for pokemon pinball, lol).

When I was programming Robber (from the Spectrum) I had a happy AI accident when I didn't account for some variables on my game's torch movement (the torch moved randomly up and down - however it would stop for a random amount of time and then continue because I forgot to tell the program what to do when up and down variables were 1 or 0).

Yeah the only problem is you share lives. So if you play with someone who dies a lot, like me, it can be frustrating.

What a great game , would have really enjoyed all the variations on the cart back in the day, two player on the screen at the same time is great fun by the looks of it.
