"Space Hulk: Deathwing is a First-Person Shooter experience based on Games Workshop's classic Space Hulk boardgame set in the universe of Warhammer 40,000. Space Hulk: Deathwing was developed on Unreal Engine 4, and offers you and up to three of your friends the chance to experience a desperate battle against Genestealers in the claustrophobic tunnels of a Space Hulk. You also gain skills, new abilities, and new equipment as you earn experience during missions. Space Hulks drift along the currents of the Warp, the immaterial dimension of Chaos. Made up of gigantic, mangled asteroids, ship wrecks, and other stellar debris, they can grow to the size of a moon, and often contain treasured and ancient lost technologies. They are often also infested with broods of the lethal Genestealer. In the game you take on the role of a Space Marine from one of the most secret and most feared Space Marine forces: the Deathwing of the Dark Angels Chapter. As a Librarian, you can also master the destructive powers of the Psykers. Your skills and performance in battle grant you Fervor Points to spend on 3 skill trees, allowing you to improve your abilities and unlock new powers. Don your Terminator armour and arm yourself with the iconic weaponry of the Space Marines and face the threats that await you in the Space Hulk." This game feels similar in some ways to Space Hulk that I've seen played on board games while also feeling like a pretty good FPS horror game in the 40K universe. Glad we're actually seeing a Space Marine Chapter other than Blood Ravens or Ultramarines for once. I'm a big 40k fan, read tons of the lore books, played a lot of the games, and own both a Black Templar and Ork army from the hobby.

"I seem to remember genestealers having rending claws. This armor is about as protective as wrapping your dick in a napkin to fuck a chain sword."
Brother Sergeant Gideon of the Blood Angels. -
Genestealers are from the tyrranids, yes. They are the first wave of the tyrranid hive, and their goal is to infect the society of the population living on the surface of a planet.
As their name say it, they "steal" genes of the population by transforming the ruling caste of the population into genestealers, thus allowing the hive to capture the planet much more easily by making those transformed people do... bad things, like corruption, sending the defense forces on the wrong places, etc... -
This is a good name for a death metal band
-
I like the sword shape. I wonder how much damage does it inflict if you stab those foul gene stealers, trying to steal your presious seed, with just the tip of it.

I'm not too familiar with the Warhammer 40K lore either, but I''ll definitely have to acquaint myself with it! Great video!

This is WAAAAY different from the other SpaceHulk games

So Reformist (or anyone else who read this very, very long explanation on the lore of this game in warhammer 40k.) So you are a space marine, an augmented human who has greater, strength, speed, and stamina than regular humans. These soldiers were created by the imperium of man (future human space empire) to battle the threats of the heretics (traitor space marines and daemons) and the xenos races (aliens). As a space marine of the first chapter you have been outfitted with terminator armor, which further enhances you're already considerable abilities (well except speed terminator armor is incredibly heavy, in fact it's amazing you can even move in it much less fight, but again your a space marine it is to be expected.) On top of all this you are also a psyker who has the ability to draw power from the warp to manifest different abilities. Long story short, the warp is a mirror of our world all of our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs are put into it (humans and aliens.) if enough people believe in something or a strong enough emotion is felt across many individuals then it will be reflected in the warp. The warp is also how the different races are able to travel vast distances (think hyper speed) in the warhammer 40k universe (well some of them). This generally a dangerous task as the warp is constantly in flux, warp storms can make travel in certain parts nigh impossible, as well as the fact that the warp is home to all sorts of nasty creatures such as daemons and dark gods. This is why some ships are lost or left abandoned after the whole crew was slaughtered by daemons or even worse become stuck in the warp with the crew still alive. When enough of these ships mush together you get a space hulk and sometimes the warp will see fit to plunk these space hulks back in real space where it is your job to explore them to make sure no nasties are aboard. Speaking of nasties it is now time to talk about the lovely tyranids (I am a huge tyranid fan.) You were correct Reformist in your assumption that genestealers are yes indeed a type of tyranid. (Think of the types of tyranids as different types of bees in a hive, you have the worker bee who has one particular job to fill and is slightly different from all other bees of the same species but it is still a bee) The great thing about tyranids is that they are able to adapt to almost any situation, if the enemy is using fire in an atttempt to push back the hive fleet, the tyranids will simply create a more fire resistant variant of tyranid. The tyranids are also able to integrate the DNA of prey species into their genome to create new types of tyranid (they were able to create their own psykers in the form of zoanthropes after consuming some eldar.) The type of tyranid you are fighting are called genestealers. These beautiful creatures have the ability to change the genetic makeup of a individual that causes the individual to have an increased desire to... mate. once the mating is through and the proper amount of time has passed for a baby to be born, a baby will be born. But not any regular baby, this baby will be a genestealer hybrid who will then take control of the parents and bring them to the genestealer cult, who worship the tyranids as gods and want to create more hybrids to bring the tyranid fleet to their planet so that the tyranids can devour it. Now over time the hybrids will look more and more human so they will be able to further integrate themselves into society, until one day they will rise up and tale over the planet in preparation for the tyranid hive fleet. So that's basically the basics. If you know more about warhammer lore (let's face it you probably do I'm not exactly lore savvy) or feel I missed anything feel free to correct me. And if you are interested and want to know more about warhammer 40k check out the warhammer 40k wikia.

I definitely recommend taking a look at the "Warhammer 40.000" universe. There are a lot of analogies with the "Warhammer Fantasy" universe (like the Orks themselves or the Eldar and Dark Eldar), but the final result was something completely unique.
Note: I mentioned it in Viktoria's video too, but yes: genestealers are Tyranids. They are scary, but you wouldn't want to face the other Tyranid breeds either :) , like hive tyrants, carnifexes, tyrannofexes, mawlocs, hierophants. Massive hordes are scary, but massive things with claws, fangs and sometimes guns are even scarier :( . And I didn't even talk about the Commissars! -
love Warhammer

Didn't think you were into these sort of games, but a quick tip anyway. Don't destroy doors if you don't have to and seal them after you enter them, it will lessen the entry points which they can enter a room.

40k is so complex in terms of lore.

getting into the lore is almost religion like in it's complexity and nuances and it's evolving every few months
