Man, imagine if Visceral Games, the developers of Dead Space, designed this game; I think this game would've been perfect.

"No shit, Battle Brother Sherlock" -
I may not be a die hard 40K fan but I do know what makes a good game and this isn't it!! yes the levels are good,, but for me that's it,,, the best thing about the game is good levels and that doesn't cut it!! its a poor excuse for a game,, there is nothing to do,, virtually no progression or tasks, very BORING game play,,, just move a bit and shoot a horde,, move a bit more and shoot another horde,,, buggy as hell from the offset,, this really does feel like half a game if that!, I would refund If I could!

this guy knows about lore but he doesn't know anything about PC video games ...
-
You basically describe vengeance of the blood angels at the end mate. Now that was a great tactical fps which is what I thought this would be
-
The problem with this game is most likely because they planned console version.
Current gen consoles have shit CPUs so they can't do complex AI calculations, meanwhile most PCs these days have overkill CPUs for this kind of thing. -
still waiting on full controler support 😠😠😠
-
Love how your AI buddies always get swarmed and are somehow alive still afterwards.

It must be so frustrating for the devs to have guys like you panning their game for completely fabricated reasons. There's so much that you said that's demonstrably wrong, it's not even a matter of opinion. There's never any point in the game where you have to backtrack across an entire level (or even half a level) because of a blockage. Almost all blockages are on the map and the few that aren't are very easy to get around in a minute or two. Regular genestealers can almost always be killed in 2-3 shots from the front (more from the back, you can see sparks from the rounds deflected off their armour) and hybrids regularly die in 1 or 2 hits. The storm bolter in this game is probably the most authentic sounding one in any 40k game. Yeah it's essentially an automatic RPG launcher, have you heard what a grenade launcher sounds like? It doesn't roar or boom. Genestealers never, ever spawn at your feet unless you're standing on a spawn point, which is your own fault not the game's. The AI also sends regular genestealers ahead of the bigger strains, they split up around corridors to flank you when possible, they run for cover, they wait around corners, hybrids use cover and ambushes a lot. There's not much else that could be done to improve the AI. Maybe not having genestealers turn around to get off the bottom of a ladder would be good.
You're all over the shop with your opinions and recommendations too. You don't like that genestealers conga line (which they rarely do unless it's past a choke point like a ladder) and you complain that you can't shoot past your squad but you want tight corridors that can be held by a single terminator against hundreds of genestealers. How would that work in co-op? One guy sits in a corridor for 20 minutes holding mouse 1 while the rest of the squad does the mission? It's obvious that most of the development time was put into the single player with the maps slightly altered for co-op. They should have released the single player only and added co-op down the track, the game definitely would have been received better.
There are some legitimate reasons to not recommend this game and about half of what you said was fairly true but honestly, I've seen so many flat out mistruths and trolling that it seems like people are just looking for the next whiner bandwagon to jump on since everyone moved on from No Man's Sky. I've seen NMS referenced way too many times in Space Hulk discussions to be a coincidence. And no I'm not a 40k fanboy, just a gamer who hates it when people with an audience don't represent a game properly. The biggest problem with this game is that it's not quite sure what kind of FPS it wants to be. The bigger problem is that people who review it don't know what FPS they want it to be either, so they just complain about all the things it should have been (often contradicting themselves) instead of playing it for what it is. -
Arch is this better than eternal failshade?

I haven't played the game myself but from what I've seen of the gameplay, I think modifying the game so that the auto-gun turrets and stubber hybrids should be flat out replaced with more rocket teams or even lascannon hauling teams. Turning down purer strains while boosting melee hybrids would make for a more canon conflict while keeping it 'videogame' fun/challenging.
In addition, the melee combat looks rather stiff and stilted. Not to mention the options for it are very limited. Where's the lightning claws? The chain fists? The real meaty stuff that helps pulp both man and material alike? Or the ranged options of heavy flamers and meltas? Weapons that are focused on breaking through enemy armor (hard targets like larger strains) or cutting down the swaths of enemies in a blazing wall of promethium. I don't say this often because I think it's a stupid thing to say but this game has potential, hopefully the developers will realize that and put more effort into it with free content patches before they start adding DLC. -
Sadly I have to agree on all points here. I wanted to see a great Space Hulk game but we did not get that.
-
Great review! I feel exactly the same on all points except music (I think music would take away from the ambiance of lumbering through a space hulk)
-
Could you consider that the active hearing protection muffles the massive sound of the stormbolter? Or other guns?
-
Can we get a lore video on Space Hulks?
-
I don't get the "hazy filter" comment. It's a dusty old ship what did you expect it to be like?
-
So I agree the game isn't perfect, but hang on... you want a single player game where:
- you need to rely on (1) AI squadmates to lock down a corridor, like in the boardame, and at the same time want
- (2) AI genestealers move more unpredictably and also
- (3) genestealers are more deadly in melee?
This doesn't add up. You would lose battle brothers and get stabbed randomly because no AI will hold your back against enemies which are challenging enough for you yourself. Either that or the maps would be boring because with 2 teamies you can only cover Y-junctions reliably. -
The game would be very fun if it were actually playable. Unfortunately it is very unstable and very lacking in terms of optimization, and it eats all available RAM until there is no more RAM available, turning it into an unresponsive slideshow or outright freezing it.
The game needs some major fixes and optimizations before it can be recommended. -
"Brother Captain Obvious" - This needs to be a meme.

Rotary barrels on gatling weapons are to reduce barrel heatup. NOT TO REDUCE RECOIL. Stop talking about shit when you don't have a fucking clue.
