Space Engineers Tutorial 8 - Gravity Drives
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
How to build a basic Gravity Drive in a preexisting ship. It works better if you build the ship with the gravity drive in mind, or if the ship is large enough to accomodate it along the central axis later.

It's not really a good comparison if you compare the 2 thrusters the ship has in the back to the over 30 blocks used to make the gravity drive.

troll phisics much?

Kinda of a let down to see that there is a gravity drive in this game.
You could make a cube like ship and set up the generators and mass block groups to turn on and off in sequence with the the thruster's that would let you zing around like bee. -
7:42 "So I can add more mass blocks too, and get more effects... out of my... HOW THE HELL DO I GET OUT OF HERE?!?!... Stupid Artsy Fartsy Ship Design!" I was totally ROFLMAO from that one! You are not alone in feeling that way! I think many of us feel that way about the red ship too. I mean, for crying out loud, make it SIMPLE to navigate! It is such a rat maze in there that you think you should be rewarded by a piece of cheese in the corner! Sharp cheddar if you please!
Thank you for putting up these tutorials, as newbies to the game like myself need them. It is such an ever expanding game. I started playing it BEFORE they put planets in there, and I am STILL a newbie! Keep the videos coming. -
your steam message sound tricked me
-
Just picked up SE. Working my way through you tutorials. Just wanted to say thanks. They are helping a lot in getting me started.

"Stupid gravity drive noise.wav"
Kek'd
It's a shame you can't break the 105 m/s limit though -
nice videos dude, finally subscribed :P , keep up the good work

I think I posted a comment about jump drives but it may have glitches out. The Space Engineers dev team has released JUMP DRIVES in its new update (which came out today). So can you please do a video on explaining their purpose vs gravity drives? Thnx gas.
-
Can you please do a weaponry tutorial Gas?
-
Can you send me that stupid gravity drive noise.wav?

Who else checked their steam for a message? -
Theoretically, if one were to place a cluster of mass blocks (3x3x3) at an imaginary center, then surround it by a 3x3 set of gravity generators on each face (meaning a gravity field in each axis direction of the cube. Would I be able to accelerate in any axis direction (or derivatives) by turning the respective generators on? (and their opposites off)
Also, wouldn't limiting the gravity field size to only envelop themselves and the artificial mass allow you to circumvent the "can't have regular purpose grav-gens" rule? i.e.
Make the sizes so that the regular ones don't touch the artificial mass blocks, and so the gravitation drive only touch the arfiticial mass blocks?
I'm going to test this anyway, but I'm just curious and it's 5 a.m. -
you kind of sound like Joe Rogan
-
These tutorials have been a great help to me getting into the game. Thanks very much
-
just put another gravity generator oriented correctly(downward) on the ship and put it in the grav gen group but with the toggle inverted
itll go on when the gravity drive goes off
right? -
so no need for engines?! incredible!
-
It´s kind of cheating. ;) But I blame the creators. The idea of a block like bounded gravity field (pointing in only one direction!) is just stupid. It´s against all physics I learned. But I have to confess thats the only way to include computable gravity in this game...
-
You can have gravity (for walking) in a ship with a gravity drive, it's easy-peasy actually! Just use another gravity generator mounted on the ceiling to cancel out the gravity in the room where you have your gravity drive, I do it all the time :)
Oh wait, this has already been mentioned multiple times it seems... My bad
Another thought though, you can also use extra generators to "trim" the ship & cancel out any torque that the drive produces. -
Nice to see I'm not the only one that gets lost in that stupid red ship.
