Planetary mining without damaging a ship is pretty hard :). I finally got good at it with a ship design that was basically a square with drills along the bottom side. Took a while to get to that design and refine it enough for it to be easier.

Dude I hate mining on planets as well. gravity sucks. Do you have the calculation for the Thruster and how much weight can be used. I do my Lets Plays in German.

I've stopped mining on earth with a flying driller, it's just non practical. Now I've build a mining plateform which I fly to the right place, then I land it and locked it on the ground and with the help of pistons et rotors I manage to mine 50m around and 45m deep and this is done automatically with a script. Stone are ejected and ore are refined in situ. I just have to go and dock with a little transportation aircraft. I have multiple plateforms on different mining sites. And for worlds which limits the use of big drill, I use a connector and a driller head made of small blocks and the cran just lock onto the drill head. It works perfect.

Sage i recomend using the flight assist with freeglide hover active,keeps you level but lets you move about vertically and horizontally

quick tip: you can do that same trick with locking your drills on by holding down left click to activate drills and while still holding it hit I for inventory and release mouse click. The drills will stay on until you left click again

The dark patch between your ship and the lack might be uranium. If the easy starts all spawn the same it will be.

If you remove the small cargo containers and all the conveyors I am pretty sure you would have enough room for two large cargo containers.Then you could have removed the corner pipes (at the top) and replaced them with convayors and had an oxygen tank pointing down and left and right. that way it would double your cargo size and triple your oxygen tanks.And if to added convayors on the cargo container ports (all four of them on all four. replacing the pipes on the ones you biult weeks ago) and then linked them up and down with more oxygen tanks. This give you even more oxygen storage and gives you more conections to attach things sideways pointing out of the ship.

one of the problems with the miner is that it can carry more then it can fly with. might I suggest you either acquire more thrust to compensate, or get rid of one of the containers. calculate your total flight thrust and equate with small cargo to match. perhaps add 2-4 additional small as buffers. the buffers will act in a way that when your full you will start to descend. you wait the two seconds for stone to eject and go go.
this change in my opinion with give you better efficiency!
maybe add not a skin but a role cage around your cargo. -
