Space Battleship Yamato: 2199 Debuting in Japanese Cinemas on April 7, 2012, Space Battleship Yamato: 2199 is an animated retelling of the 1974 series, originally announced at the end of 2010 as in development for a Television Series, and then confirmed at Anime Expo in 2011 as a remake of the original "Journey to Iscandar" story arc. Produced by Enagio, helmed by Shoji Nishizaki, the adopted son of the late Space Battleship Yamato creator/producer, Yoshinobu Nishizaki. The Supervising Director is celebrated character designer and animation director Yutaka Izubuchi and Character Designs were created by veteran Nobuteru Yuki. The animation is being produced by Xebec and AIC. The first two episodes of this new series have been edited into a 50-minute feature to promote the new series. From the Teaser Trailer, launched on November 11, 2011, the designs of the Gamilas and Earth Defense Force spacecraft appear to have been kept entirely true to the original series. Other production details and credits (including broadcast network and airdates) have yet to be released to the public as of November 2011.
